Welcome to Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: 1 Peter: 9-10 - But you are a special people, a holy nation, priests and kings, a people given up completely to God, so that you may make clear the virtues of him who took you out of the dark into the light of heaven.  In the past you were not a people, but now you are the people of God: then there was no mercy for you, but now mercy has been given to you.

Subject: The Shift - Part 2

  • A shift is simply a change in direction.
  • Israelites were God's chosen people.
  • Obedience is better than sacrifice. 1 Samuel 15:22
  • The Gentiles are the branch of God's chosen. Romans 11:11-31
  • The shift is also a detour from a dangerous path.
  • We must be transforms in the renewing of our mines. Romans 12:2
  • We must be influenced by Jesus and not Satan.
  • We must be shaped by the Master's hand (Jesus).
  • Don't be jealous of anyone or anything.
  • Zealots were people who advocated for armed revolts against those who opposed them. But Jesus rebuked them. He was not intimidated.
  • Be care for your surrounding and discerning of others.

Welcome to Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: 1 Peter 2:9-10 - But you are a special people, a holy nation, priests and kings, a people given up completely to God, so that you may make clear the virtues of him who took you out of the dark into the light of heaven.  In the past you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; then there was no mercy for you, but now mercy has been given to you.

Subject: The Shift

  • A shift is a slight change in direction.
  • In this chapter verse 9, we see that the people are a chosen generation that is obedient.
  • Exodus 19:5 - Now therefore, if you will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then you shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine.
  • We must take the road less traveled.
  • We must understand that not "my" will, but God's will be done!
  • Be careful of information overload. Don't get caught up with today's news & gossip.
  • We must stay in the Word of God.
  • We must shift away from the influence of Satan.
  • We must follow Jesus on his path. We are a work in progress.
  • The Potter is still molding us in His image.

Welcome to Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: 1 Peter 5:6-9 - Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you.  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour; Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.   Philippians 2:6-11 - Make my joy complete by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in harmony and of one mind;  Doing nothing through envy of through pride, but with low thoughts of self, let everyone take others to be better than himself;  Not looking everyone to his private good, but keeping in mind the things of others.  Let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus,  To whom, though himself in the form of God, it did not seem that to take for oneself was to be like God;  But he made himself as nothing, taking the form of a servant, being made like men;  And being seen in form as a man, he took the lowest place, and let himself be put to death, even the death of the cross. For this reason God has put him in the highest place and has given to him the name which is greater than every name;  So that at the name of Jesus every knee may be bent, of those in heaven and those on earth and those in the underworld,  And that very tongue may give witness that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Subject: Searching for Humility

  • We are not just me, myself and I.
  • We must have humility in ourselves and have a loving spirit towards others.
  • Jesus's life was humility. He was a living example for all of us.
  • His humility was the way to our salvation.
  • Humility is not a weakness.
  • God gives grace to the humble.
  • Humility is the soil of which the fruit of the spirit grows.  Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
  • Don't become prideful.
  • Pride showed up in the Garden of Eden & has been around for a very long time.
  • Proverbs 16:18 - Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
  • Satan was so prideful that he thought to be more than God.
  • In search of humility: humble & submit ourselves before God.
  • Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight.
  • We must stand firm on your faith and be in the will of God.
  • Resist the devil.
  • Study to show thyself approved unto God. 2 Timothy 2:15
  • Be ready at all times.

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 - For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

  • Our weapons come from God.
  • We must be obedient to Christ.

  • We must resist temptations, false facts, etc.
  • We shall know the truth and the truth shall make us free. John 8:32
  • All to Jesus we must surrender.

Welcome from Brown Chaple/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: Psalm 46:1-11God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

2Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

3Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

4There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.

5God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

6The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.

7The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

8Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth.

9He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.

10Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

11The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

Subject: Be Still & Know That I Am God

  • Have you ever found yourself multitasking?
  • Have you ever been in such a hurry at the grocery store that you play the guessing game of which check-out line is the quickest?
  • There are so many things going on in your lives today, on the news, in our neighborhood, losing our health care, etc.
  • Be still!
  • God is with us even through all the chaos.

  • Raphah - to let go, to relax.

  • Be anxious for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  Philippians 4:6

Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Minister Malone

Scripture: John 6:1-11Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand

1Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias), 2and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the signs he had performed by healing the sick. 3Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples. 4The Jewish Passover Festival was near.
5When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?”6He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.
7Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!”
8Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, 9“Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”
10Jesus said, “Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). 11Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.

Subject: In The Hands of God

  • God's hands are not our hands.
  • There are many miracles performed by Jesus.
  • When we place our lives in the hands of the Lord we become servants of the Lord.
  • Two fish & 5 loaves of bread and above all, Jesus!
  • All to Jesus, I surrender. All to Him I freely give. In other words, turn it over to Jesus.
  • Jesus wants to take away whatever is eating away at our souls.
  • Matthew 11:28-30 - Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
  • God's got the whole world in His hands.

Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: We lift in prayer the families in the flood zones & the folks who are tasked with rescue & recovery. Their lives are forever changed but strengthen them and ease their burden. In the name of Jesus the Christ. Amen

Scripture: John 14:26 - But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you.

Subject: All the help we need

  • In this day & time we need God's help.
  • God wants to help us.
  • God sent Jesus to save us, to be our light.
  • When Jesus ascended into heaven, He told us that He would send us a helper.
  • The Holy Spirit came down as our helper, counselor, our guild.
  • The Greek word of Holy Spirit is "Paraclete," which means someone called to come alongside another to help or assist in any way needed.
  • We have a choice. Do we allow the Holy Spirit to work in us OR not?!
  • The Holy Spirit keeps our hearts in the Word of God.
  • The Holy Spirit helps us grow.
  • The Holy Spirit restores us daily.
  • The Holy Spirit transforms our lives.  - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things.
  • The Holy Spirit helps us to love continually, in all things.
  • The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin.  John 16:7-11 - Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth. It is for your benefit that I go away because if I don't go away the Counselor will not come to you. If I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world about sin, righteousness and judgment: About sin, because they do not believe in me, about righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see me; and about judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
  • The Holy Spirit empowers us to proclaim Jesus Christ.  Acts 4:31 - When they had prayed, the place where they were assembled was shaken and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God boldly.
  • There are other ways that the Holy Spirit works in us.
  • We must be and stay open to his help

Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Minister Dorothy Malone

Scripture: Luke 8:26-27 & 34-35 - And they came to the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee. And when Jesus had come to the land, there came to him a certain man from the town who had evil spirits; and for a long time he had no clothing on, and was not living in a house but in the place of the dead.

And when the men who took care of them saw what had come about, they went quickly and gave news of it in the town and the country.  And they went out to see what had taken place, and they came to Jesus and saw the man out of whom the evil spirits had gone, seated, clothed and with full use of his senses; at the feet of Jesus; and fear came on them.

Subject: Disturbing the Peace

  • Living in a graveyard was thought to be an evil place and that no one should be living in one.
  • Citations for disturbing the peace: Acting out of character; the locals needed assistance but came back with a mob to possibility start a problem; & Jesus too, was involved. He cast out the demons.
  • The pig farmers told about what happened to the possessed man. Jesus healed him and the man sat at Jesus' feet.
  • The pig farmers were afraid of Jesus but not the possessed man.
  • The farmers were living in their comfort zone and didn't want anyone to rock the boat, so to speak.
  • Do we fear change as those pig farmers did?
  • We are the Eclosia (Ekklesia - bibical spelling), the one that Jesus call out to be His own.
  • Don't disturb the peace but find peace.
  • John 14:27 - Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

June 8, 2025 - The Day of Pentecost

Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: Acts 2:1-4 - And when the day of Pentecost was come, they were all together in one place.  And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like the rushing of a violent wind, and all the house where they were was full of it.  And they saw tongues, like flames of fire, coming to rest on every one of them.  And they were all full of the Holy Spirit, and were talking in different languages, as the Spirit gave them power.

Subject: The Significance of the day of Pentecost and the Outpouring of the Holy Spirit

  • The celebration of Christ's new church is Pentecost. Fifty days after the resurrection.
  • A time of harvest.
  • Pentecost was a time to reset.
  • We need a spiritual reset.
  • Pentecost is a divine invitation to live a spirit filled life. The Holy Spirit released into the people.
  • The Holy Spirit was promised by God Himself.
  • Whosoever will, may come.
  • The Holy Spirit is a gift and not a reward.
  • The Spirit will abide in us.
  • We are effective witnesses empowered by the Holy Spirit.
  • We need the power, presence and the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

June 1, 2025

Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: Psalms 14:1 - The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Subject: What a Fool Believes

  • The Apostles' Creed:  I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and was buried; on the third day he rose from the dead; ascended into heaven, and seated on the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the quick and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Spirit, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.
  • The fools' creed: There is no god.
  • If you are foolish enough to believe that there is no god, you are truly on shaky ground.
  • Roman 1:20 - For the invisible things of him form the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.
  • Proverbs 1:7 - The fear of the Lord is start of knowledge: but the foolish have no use for wisdom and teaching.
  • Jesus said, I am the way, the truth and the life. Nobody comes to the Father but by me.
  • Ephesians 2:8-9 - For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not form yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.
  • Jesus paid our sin debt.
  • Three kinds of fools: a lazy person who wants everyone else to do things; a swindler who takes advantage of others by stealing & taking what is not theirs; and lastly a sociopath with no regards for anyone else.
  • Proverb 6:6-19 - Go to the ant, you hater of work; give thought to her ways and be wish:  Having no chief, overseer, or ruler, She gets her meat in the summer, storing up food at the time of the grain-cutting. How long will you be sleeping, O hater of work? when will you get up from your sleep? A little sleep, a little rest, a little folding of the hands, in sleep:  Then loss will come on your like an outlaw, and your need like an armed man. A good-for-nothing man is an evil-doer; he goes on his way causing trouble with false words;  making sings with his eyes, rubbing with his feet, and giving news with his fingers; his mind is ever designing evil: he lets loose violet acts. For this cause his downfall will be sudden; quickly he will be broken, and there will be no help for him. Six things are hated by the Lord; seven things are disgusting to him:  Eyes of pride, a false tongue, hands which take life without cause;  A heart full of evil designs, feet which are quick in running after sin;  A false witness, breathing out untrue words, and one who lets loose violent acts among brothers.
  • Don't be a fool.

Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: Lamentations 3:17-2617 my soul is bereft of peace;

I have forgotten what happiness is;

18 so I say, “Gone is my glory,

and all that I had hoped for from the Lord.”

19 The thought of my affliction and my homelessness

is wormwood and gall!

20 My soul continually thinks of it

and is bowed down within me.

21 But this I call to mind,

and therefore I have hope:

22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,b

his mercies never come to an end;

23 they are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.

24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,

“therefore I will hope in him.”

25 The Lord is good to those who wait for him,

to the soul that seeks him.

26 It is good that one should wait quietly

for the salvation of the Lord.

Subject: Are You Tired Yet?

  • 2 Timothy 3:1-5 - This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy; Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good; Traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasures more that lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
  • Are you a clanging cymbal?  1 Corinthians 13:1 - If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn't love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
  • We are not to be consumed by our trials.
  • We are to have faith.
  • We can express our troubles and our happiness to God because all glory goes to God.
  • We have tools to minister to ourselves and to others. The Word!
  • Psalms 34:18 - The Lord is near the broken-hearted; he is the savior of those whose spirits are crushed down.
  • Be careful of your surroundings, the Internet, worldly things, etc.
  • We must pray unceasingly.
  • Isaiah 40:28-31 - Have you no knowledge of it? has it not come to your ears? The eternal God, the Lord, the Maker of the ends of the earth, is never feeble or tired; there is no searching out of his wisdom.  He gives power to the feeble, increasing the strength of him who has no force. Even the young men will become feeble and tired, and the best of them will come to the end of his strength; But those who are waiting for the Lord will have new strength; they will get wings like eagles: running, they will not be tired, and walking, they will have no weariness.
  • Matthew 11:28 - Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
