Scripture: 1 Samuel 8:4-9 - Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah, and said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.  But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord.  And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in tall that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.  According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.  Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and show them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.

Subject: Be Careful What You Ask For

The people are rejecting God not Samuel just as some are rejecting God to this day.

Israel asked for a king just as some asked for a king in this day and age, trying to make some of us feel more secure. Some want to be more that everyone else.

We are the called out because we are different from the world. The ekklesia. Matthew 16:18

Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness.

We must be careful of what we ask of God. Consider the cost of what you ask for.

Don't place power in the hands of men.

Do not surrender your faith in God.

Hebrews 11:1 - Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

No person deserves our allegiance because our God is a jealous God.  Our allegiance belongs to God through Jesus Christ.

The church's job is to speak truth.

Remember that God is not a respecter of persons. Acts 10:34

Human kings only have so much power. It is limited. But God's power is ALL POWER!

No nation can stand without God!
