Welcome to Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: 1 Peter: 9-10 - But you are a special people, a holy nation, priests and kings, a people given up completely to God, so that you may make clear the virtues of him who took you out of the dark into the light of heaven.  In the past you were not a people, but now you are the people of God: then there was no mercy for you, but now mercy has been given to you.

Subject: The Shift - Part 2

  • A shift is simply a change in direction.
  • Israelites were God's chosen people.
  • Obedience is better than sacrifice. 1 Samuel 15:22
  • The Gentiles are the branch of God's chosen. Romans 11:11-31
  • The shift is also a detour from a dangerous path.
  • We must be transforms in the renewing of our mines. Romans 12:2
  • We must be influenced by Jesus and not Satan.
  • We must be shaped by the Master's hand (Jesus).
  • Don't be jealous of anyone or anything.
  • Zealots were people who advocated for armed revolts against those who opposed them. But Jesus rebuked them. He was not intimidated.
  • Be care for your surrounding and discerning of others.

Welcome to Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: 1 Peter 2:9-10 - But you are a special people, a holy nation, priests and kings, a people given up completely to God, so that you may make clear the virtues of him who took you out of the dark into the light of heaven.  In the past you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; then there was no mercy for you, but now mercy has been given to you.

Subject: The Shift

  • A shift is a slight change in direction.
  • In this chapter verse 9, we see that the people are a chosen generation that is obedient.
  • Exodus 19:5 - Now therefore, if you will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then you shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine.
  • We must take the road less traveled.
  • We must understand that not "my" will, but God's will be done!
  • Be careful of information overload. Don't get caught up with today's news & gossip.
  • We must stay in the Word of God.
  • We must shift away from the influence of Satan.
  • We must follow Jesus on his path. We are a work in progress.
  • The Potter is still molding us in His image.

Welcome to Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: 1 Peter 5:6-9 - Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you.  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour; Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.   Philippians 2:6-11 - Make my joy complete by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in harmony and of one mind;  Doing nothing through envy of through pride, but with low thoughts of self, let everyone take others to be better than himself;  Not looking everyone to his private good, but keeping in mind the things of others.  Let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus,  To whom, though himself in the form of God, it did not seem that to take for oneself was to be like God;  But he made himself as nothing, taking the form of a servant, being made like men;  And being seen in form as a man, he took the lowest place, and let himself be put to death, even the death of the cross. For this reason God has put him in the highest place and has given to him the name which is greater than every name;  So that at the name of Jesus every knee may be bent, of those in heaven and those on earth and those in the underworld,  And that very tongue may give witness that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Subject: Searching for Humility

  • We are not just me, myself and I.
  • We must have humility in ourselves and have a loving spirit towards others.
  • Jesus's life was humility. He was a living example for all of us.
  • His humility was the way to our salvation.
  • Humility is not a weakness.
  • God gives grace to the humble.
  • Humility is the soil of which the fruit of the spirit grows.  Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
  • Don't become prideful.
  • Pride showed up in the Garden of Eden & has been around for a very long time.
  • Proverbs 16:18 - Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
  • Satan was so prideful that he thought to be more than God.
  • In search of humility: humble & submit ourselves before God.
  • Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight.
  • We must stand firm on your faith and be in the will of God.
  • Resist the devil.
  • Study to show thyself approved unto God. 2 Timothy 2:15
  • Be ready at all times.

Welcome from Brown Chaple/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: Psalm 46:1-11God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

2Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

3Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

4There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.

5God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

6The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.

7The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

8Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth.

9He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.

10Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

11The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

Subject: Be Still & Know That I Am God

  • Have you ever found yourself multitasking?
  • Have you ever been in such a hurry at the grocery store that you play the guessing game of which check-out line is the quickest?
  • There are so many things going on in your lives today, on the news, in our neighborhood, losing our health care, etc.
  • Be still!
  • God is with us even through all the chaos.

Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Minister Malone

Scripture: John 6:1-11Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand

1Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias), 2and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the signs he had performed by healing the sick. 3Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples. 4The Jewish Passover Festival was near.
5When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?”6He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.
7Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!”
8Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, 9“Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”
10Jesus said, “Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). 11Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.

Subject: In The Hands of God

  • God's hands are not our hands.
  • There are many miracles performed by Jesus.
  • When we place our lives in the hands of the Lord we become servants of the Lord.
  • Two fish & 5 loaves of bread and above all, Jesus!
  • All to Jesus, I surrender. All to Him I freely give. In other words, turn it over to Jesus.
  • Jesus wants to take away whatever is eating away at our souls.
  • Matthew 11:28-30 - Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
  • God's got the whole world in His hands.

Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Minister Dorothy Malone

Scripture: Luke 8:26-27 & 34-35 - And they came to the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee. And when Jesus had come to the land, there came to him a certain man from the town who had evil spirits; and for a long time he had no clothing on, and was not living in a house but in the place of the dead.

And when the men who took care of them saw what had come about, they went quickly and gave news of it in the town and the country.  And they went out to see what had taken place, and they came to Jesus and saw the man out of whom the evil spirits had gone, seated, clothed and with full use of his senses; at the feet of Jesus; and fear came on them.

Subject: Disturbing the Peace

  • Living in a graveyard was thought to be an evil place and that no one should be living in one.
  • Citations for disturbing the peace: Acting out of character; the locals needed assistance but came back with a mob to possibility start a problem; & Jesus too, was involved. He cast out the demons.
  • The pig farmers told about what happened to the possessed man. Jesus healed him and the man sat at Jesus' feet.
  • The pig farmers were afraid of Jesus but not the possessed man.
  • The farmers were living in their comfort zone and didn't want anyone to rock the boat, so to speak.
  • Do we fear change as those pig farmers did?
  • We are the Eclosia (Ekklesia - bibical spelling), the one that Jesus call out to be His own.
  • Don't disturb the peace but find peace.
  • John 14:27 - Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

June 8, 2025 - The Day of Pentecost

Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: Acts 2:1-4 - And when the day of Pentecost was come, they were all together in one place.  And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like the rushing of a violent wind, and all the house where they were was full of it.  And they saw tongues, like flames of fire, coming to rest on every one of them.  And they were all full of the Holy Spirit, and were talking in different languages, as the Spirit gave them power.

Subject: The Significance of the day of Pentecost and the Outpouring of the Holy Spirit

  • The celebration of Christ's new church is Pentecost. Fifty days after the resurrection.
  • A time of harvest.
  • Pentecost was a time to reset.
  • We need a spiritual reset.

  • The Holy Spirit is a gift and not a reward.
  • The Spirit will abide in us.
  • We are effective witnesses empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: Lamentations 3:17-2617 my soul is bereft of peace;

I have forgotten what happiness is;

18 so I say, “Gone is my glory,

and all that I had hoped for from the Lord.”

19 The thought of my affliction and my homelessness

is wormwood and gall!

20 My soul continually thinks of it

and is bowed down within me.

21 But this I call to mind,

and therefore I have hope:

22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,b

his mercies never come to an end;

23 they are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.

24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,

“therefore I will hope in him.”

25 The Lord is good to those who wait for him,

to the soul that seeks him.

26 It is good that one should wait quietly

for the salvation of the Lord.

Subject: Are You Tired Yet?

  • 2 Timothy 3:1-5 - This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy; Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good; Traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasures more that lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
  • Are you a clanging cymbal?  1 Corinthians 13:1 - If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn't love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
  • We are not to be consumed by our trials.
  • We are to have faith.
  • We can express our troubles and our happiness to God because all glory goes to God.
  • We have tools to minister to ourselves and to others. The Word!
  • Psalms 34:18 - The Lord is near the broken-hearted; he is the savior of those whose spirits are crushed down.
  • Be careful of your surroundings, the Internet, worldly things, etc.
  • We must pray unceasingly.
  • Isaiah 40:28-31 - Have you no knowledge of it? has it not come to your ears? The eternal God, the Lord, the Maker of the ends of the earth, is never feeble or tired; there is no searching out of his wisdom.  He gives power to the feeble, increasing the strength of him who has no force. Even the young men will become feeble and tired, and the best of them will come to the end of his strength; But those who are waiting for the Lord will have new strength; they will get wings like eagles: running, they will not be tired, and walking, they will have no weariness.
  • Matthew 11:28 - Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Scripture: Mark 11:1-10 -And when they came near to Jerusalem, to Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,  And said to them, Go into the little town opposite: and when you come to it, you will see a young ass with a cord round his neck, on which no man has ever been seated; let him loose, and come back with him.  And if anyone says to you, Why are you doing this? say, The Lord has need of him and will send him back straight away.  And they went away and say a young ass by the door outside in teh open street; and they were getting him loose. And some of those who were there said to them, What are you doing, taking the ass?  And they said to them the words which Jesus had said; and they let them go.  And they took the young ass to Jesus, and put their clothing on him, and he got on his  back. And a great number put down their clothing in the way; and others put down branches which they had taken from the fields.  And those who were in front, and those who came after, were crying, Glory: A blessing on him who comes in the name of the Lord: A blessing on the coming kingdom of our father David: Glory in the highest.

Subject: Great Expectations, a Reality Check

  • The Jewish people believed there would come a messiah.
  • They thought that the new king would come with all majesty and not on an ass.
  • Why wasn't Jesus excepted by the Jews? Because He was not what they expected.
  • Jesus came so that we would have life. John 10:10
  • Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King comes unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon as ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.  Zechariah 9:9
  • Jesus walked among us and loved us.
  • Jesus gave and not take.
