Scripture: Luke 2:15-20 - When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, "Let's go to Bethlehem! Let's see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about." They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger.  After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child.  All who heard the shepherds' story were astonished, but Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often.  The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all thy had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them.

Subject: Christmas Has Passed, Now What?!

• How do we shift from all the fineries of Christmas?
• Matthew 1:23 - Look! The virgin will conceive a child. Shell will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means 'God is with us."
• And the Word became flesh
• The manger directs us to look forward to Jesus' growth as a youth, to manhood, to the cross, to Jesus ascending to heaven.
• Christmas should transform us to the true meaning.
• Be transformed with the renewing of our minds.
• Be ye doers of the Words and not just hearers. James 1:22
• Faith without works is dead. James 2:14-26
• We must work while it's day, for the night comes, when no man can work. John 9:4
• Give all glory to God!

Scripture: Luke 8:26-27 & 34-35 - And they came to the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee. And when Jesus had come to the land, there came to him a certain man from the town who had evil spirits; and for a long time he had no clothing on, and was not living in a house but in the place of the dead.

And when the men who took care of them saw what had come about, they went quickly and gave news of it in the town and the country.  And they went out to see what had taken place, and they came to Jesus and saw the man out of whom the evil spirits had gone, seated, clothed and with full use of his senses; at the feet of Jesus; and fear came on them.

Subject: Disturbing the Peace

• Living in a graveyard was thought to be an evil place and that no one should be living in one.
• Citations for disturbing the peace: Acting out of character; the locals needed assistance but came back with a mob to possibility start a problem; & Jesus too, was involved. He cast out the demons.
• The pig farmers told about what happened to the possessed man. Jesus healed him and the man sat at Jesus' feet.
• The pig farmers were afraid of Jesus but not the possessed man.
• The farmers were living in their comfort zone and didn't want anyone to rock the boat, so to speak.
• Do we fear change as those pig farmers did? 
• We are the Eclosia (Ekklesia - bibical spelling), the one that Jesus call out to be His own.
• Don't disturb the peace but find peace.
• John 14:27 - Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Scripture: Luke 1:26-38 - The Birth of Jesus Foretold

26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, 27 to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And he came to her and said, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.” 29 But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. 30 The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David. 33 He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” 34 Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?” 35 The angel said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called Son of God. 36 And now, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month for her who was said to be barren. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God.” 38 Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

Subject: The Magic or the Miracle of Christmas

• A miracle is something that God can do.
• When an angel appeared to Mary to tell her that she was highly favored and would conceive a child & she consented, a miracle happened.
• Using our sanctified imagination, we can possibly envision this great event has the angel said that the baby would be named Jesus.
• We know that God's Will is to be done.
• What are some miracles in the bible?
• Another miracle was the parting of the Red Sea.
• Another miracle was when Paul & Silar were in jail and the walls came tumbling down.
• Turning water into wine.
• Miracles and magic are not the same things.
•  And the Word became flesh and dwelled among us.
• Magic? ..... NO!
• The birth of Jesus was a miracle.

Scripture: Luke 15:11-16 - A certain man had two sons: and the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that fall to me.  And he divided unto them his living.  And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.  And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him not his fields to feed swine.  And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. 

Subject: There's No Place Like Home

• Where is home for us?
• We know the story of the son who left home with his inheritance, because he wanted to get away from home.
• Are we sometimes fed up with our old lives; curious about the outside world; just wanting to get away from our parents; etc.
• What we may not understand is that the world is or can be a wicked place while also being an exciting and enticing place.
• The longer one is out in the world, you tend to get caught up in all the excitement.
• Sin is like quicksand. The more you struggle against it the more you sink into it.
• Home is where our memories are, our foundation, our hope of a better life.
• Revelation 3:20 - Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hears my voice, and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. 
• Jesus is the only one who can forgive your sins.
• Jesus is the way, the truth and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me. John 14:6
• In my father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  John 14:2
• There is our earthly home but more importantly, there is our heavenly home.

Scripture: Luke 19:1-10 - Zacchaeus the Tax Collector

19 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.

5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” 6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.

7 All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.”

8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”

9 Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Subject: Do You Want To See Jesus?

• Who was Zacchaeus? He was a tax collector who was not liked or welcomed anywhere.
• Zacchaeus really wanted to see who Jesus was.
• James 4:8 - If we draw near to God, he will draw near to us.
• If we really want to do something, God makes a way for us.
• What are some road-blocks in our lives that prevent us from seeking Jesus.? Peer pressure, disappointments, distractions, self-importance.
• Many will say Lord, Lord but their hearts are far from God. Matthew 7:21
•  Jesus said, I am come that you may have life and have it in all its fullness. John 10:10
• Jesus knows our names.
• Jesus is God in the flesh. 
• Mark 2:17 - On hearing this, Jesus told them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
• Jesus Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If any man hears my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.  Revelation 3:20
• Zacchaeus had a change of heart and willing to repent for his sins. He began to do good works, giving four-fold.
• But we know that good works does not merit salvation.

11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Subject: (In the vernacular) How You Gonna Act?! 

• We are in the season of Lent.
• What is Lent to you? For some it's a time to give up certain things.
• What should we really give up? 
• We should give up 'sin.' 
• Jesus wants us to give up pride because pride causes one to think better of himself than others.
• Wrath, greed, sloth, lust, envy, gluttony, & pride, considered the Seven Deadly Sins.
• Matthew 26:33 - Peter's pride caused him to say, "Though all may be turned away from you, I will never be turned away.
• Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18
• The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Matthew 9:35-38
• We must continue to look to Jesus.

Scripture: Luke 1:35-37 - And the angel in answer said to her, The Holy Spirit will come on you, and so that which will come to birth will be named holy, Son, of God.  Even now Elizabeth, who is of your family, is to be a mother, though she is old: and this is the sixth month with her who was without children.  For there is nothing which God is not able to do.

Subject: With This Power

• Immanuel - God with us!
• Isaiah 7:14 - therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
• The doctrine of the Christian church - Apostles' Creed - I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, Born or the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried. On the third day he arose from the dead ascended into heaven and seated on the right hand of God. From thence he will come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the church universal, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.
• And the Word became flesh.
• Jesus was born to walk among the people. He came to heal, to love, to guide, to teach, to rebuke, and he is our way to the Father.
• With this power, Jesus is our light who died for our sins, rose from the dead and now is sitting on the right hand of God as our advocate.

Scripture: Luke 2:1-7 - Now it came about in those days that an order went out from Caesar Augustus that there was to be a numbering of all the world.  This was the first numbering, which was made when Quirinius was ruler of Syria.  And all men went to be numbered, everyone to his town.  And Joseph went up for Galilee, out of the town of Nazareth, into Judaea, to Bethlehem, the town of David, because he was of the house an family of David, to be put on the list with Mary, his future wife, who was about to become a mother.  And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she had her first son; and folding him in linen, she put him to rest in the place where the cattle had their food, because there was no room for them in the Inn.

Subject: Making Room for Jesus

• This is a busy time of the year with concerns over travel, Christmas dinner, visitors, etc.
• But Christmas will never be complete unless we make room for Jesus!
• Christ should be the focal point not only at Christmas time but always.
• We all need to bring fruit to the Christmas festivities. Fruit, such as, joy, peace, a loving spirit, kindness, self control, etc.
• Jesus' birth is a celebration.
• Jesus Christ was born. This is not a debate. 
• Jesus' birth is very special because he was born of a virgin. The Holy Spirit came upon her.
• Isaiah 7:14 - Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
• Isaiah 9:6 - For to us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon is shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
• John 1:1-2 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was Go. The same was in the beginning with God.
• We should make room for Jesus in all things, at all times.
• That if you should confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved.  Roman 10:9  
• This is how we make room for Jesus.

June 18, 2023 - Happy Father's Day

Scripture: Luke 8:40-42 & v. 49-56 - No when Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, because they were all waiting for him. Then a man named Jairus, who was a ruler of the synagogue, came up. Falling at Jesus' feet, he pleaded with him to come to his house, because he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. As Jesus was on his way, the crowds pressed around him. V. 49-56 - While he was still speaking, someone from the synagogue ruler's house came and said, "Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the teacher any longer."  But when Jesus heard this, he told him, "Do not be afraid; just believe and she will be healed."  Now when he came to the house, Jesus did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John, and James, and the child's father and mother.  Now they all wailing and mourning for her, but he said, "Stop your weeping; she is not dead but asleep." And they began making fun of him, because they knew that she was dead.  But Jesus gently took her by the hand and said, "Child, get up."  Her spirit returned, and she got up immediately. Then he told them to give her something to eat.  Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them to tell no one what had happened.

Subject: The Characteristics of a Godly Father

• Jairus was a father who was not afraid to seek Jesus for help.
• Jairus humbled himself at the feet of Jesus.
• We should seek Jesus while he might be found.
• Jairus wasn't afraid to bring Jesus into his home.
• We need men who are in Christ Jesus.
• Jairus was not afraid to put is daughter's welfare into Jesus' hand.
• We must entrust all that we have to the All Mighty God.
• We are living sacrificies to God.
• “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”  Romans 1:6

Scripture: Luke 24:28-31 - So they approached the village where they were going. He acted as though he wanted to go farther, but they urged him, " Stay with us, because it is getting toward evening and the day is almost done." So he went in to stay with them. When he had taken his place at the table with them, he took the bread, blessed and broke it and gave it to them.  At this point their eyes were opened and they recognized him.  Then he vanished out of their sight.

Subject: A Run-in With Jesus: No Accident

• This happened after Passover.
• If we seek out God, He will answer.
•  Sometimes it seems we feel hopelessness, but we need to trust God.  For God is Emanuel, meaning God is with us.
• We need to have an attitude adjustment.
• God clarifies his word through text.
• God shows us that no one can understand the bible unless we see Christ on every page.
• Jesus came to suffer for us. So at times, we too, must suffer.
• As Jesus over came, we too will overcome.
• Jesus is always on time.
• Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.  Proverbs 3:5-6
• We grow joyful with we alien ourselves with God.
• Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away. 2 Corinthians 5:17
• By Jesus' death, burial and resurrection, we are made free. Our eternal life through Jesus is guaranteed.

Scripture: Luke 4:1-4 - Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where for forty days he endured temptations from the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when they were completed, he was famished.  The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread."  Jesus answered him, "If is written, 'Man does not live by bread alone.'"

Subject: Reason & Season for Lent

Lent - a period of fasting and regret for one's sins that is observed on the 40 weekdays from Ash Wednesday to Easter by many churches.

• Lent: fasting; prayer & temptation
• Joel 2:12 - Therefore also now, said the Lord, turn to me with all your heart -with fasting, weeping, and mourning.  Tear your hearts, not just your garments!"
• Matthew 6:16 - Moreover when you fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.
• We, as Christians should take time to meditation of the sacrifice of Christ Jesus for our sins.
• Pray and meditation is important.
• Satan is our adversary. 1 Peter 5:8 - Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking to devour.
• We need to identify with Christ so that when temptation comes into our lives, we can look to Jesus, our Savior for His help and strength.
• We must realize that temptation is real and a part of our human nature.
• Remember that we are not alone; Christ is with us. He is our example for he was tempted in the wilderness.
• Jesus turned to the scriptures for his strength, so we should turn to the bible as well.
• Jesus said that he would not leave us or forsake us. He sent us a helper - The Holy Spirit.
• He gives power to the faint and increases the strength of the weak.  Isaiah 40:29

And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.

Subject: The Season & The Reason for Lent

• The 40 days of  Lent and fasting signifies Jesus in the wilderness.
• Sacrificing at this time of the year on our parts do not have to totally follow those 40 days but be steadfast in whatever you decide to do.
• Matthew 6:16 - Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad. countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear. unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
• We must remember what Jesus did for us.
• We should always turn to the Word of God.
• We are going to be tempted but we have God's Word to guide us.

Scripture: Luke 2:8-11 - 8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Subject: How to Choose & Receive the Perfect Gift

What gifts represent:

• A gift can represent our status.

• A gift can be given as a symbol of good will.
• Romans 8:32 - Indeed, he who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for  us all - how will he not also, along with him, freely give us all things?
• God gave his best, his Son.

• Romans 3:23-24 - For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. But hey are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
