Welcome to all from Brown Chapel/Avant, Shiloh and Mt. Pleasant

Prayer: Rev. Pelton

Scripture: 1 Peter 5:6-7 - Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you.

Text: The Promise of Humility

  • God promises to give us peace
  • God wants us to claim all of his promises.
  • He wants to be strengthened thru time of trouble.
  • Some promises from God are unconditional such as in Genesis 12:7 - The Lord appeared to Abram and said, "To your descendants I will give this land."
  • Some promises are conditional such as 2 Chronicles 7:14 - if my people, who belong to me, will humble themselves, pray, seek to please me, and repudiate their sinful practices, then I will respond from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.
  • Three things that might keep us from being humble: (1) We are impatient. We want it right now. But the bible says in Isaiah 40:31 - But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength.  (2) We have a spirit of insecurity. But the bible says in Philippians 4:6 - Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by pray and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  (3) We have an identify crisis. Our thinking is confused. The bible says in Proverbs 16:18 says - Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

 Greetings from Brown Chapel/Avant, Shiloh

and Mt. Pleasant Baptist

Prayer: Rev. Pelton

Scripture: Philippians 4:6-9 - Rejoice in the Lord always.Again I say rejoice! Let everyone see your gentleness. The Lord is near!  Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God.  And the peace of God. And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.  Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things.

Text: Encouragement for the Pandemic of our lives

  • Disappointment in life is inevitable.
  • Discouragement is different. It is manageable.
  • Be encouraged by looking to God.
  • Don't allow your circumstance to overwhelm you.
  • Be discouraged causes confusion.  But remember God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. 1 Corinthians 14:33
  • A double minded man is unstable......
  • Even Jesus was discouraged - Matt 26:38 - Then he said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved, even to the point of death......."
  • But Jesus did not allow hopelessness to turn away from God.
  • Dealing with discouragement: admit that we are discouraged - Confess our sins to God and he will be faith......  recognize that we are dealing with spiritual wickedness ....
  • Stay hungry and not greedy.

Closing Prayer: Rev. Baggett

September 6, 2020

 Greetings from Brown Chapel/Avant, Shiloh

and Mt. Pleasant Baptist

Prayer: Rev. Pelton

Scripture: Matthew 20:1-16 - "For the kingdom of heaven is  like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. And after agreeing with the workers for the standard wage, he sent them into his vineyard.  When it was about nine o'clock in the morning, he went out again and saw others standing around in the marketplace without work.  He said to them, 'You go into the vineyard too, and I will give you whatever is right.'  So they went. When he went out again about noon and three o'clock that afternoon, he did the same thing.  And about five o'clock that afternoon he went out and found others standing around, and said to them, 'Why are you standing here all day without work?'  They said to him, 'Because no one hired us.' He said to them, 'You go and work in the vineyard too.' When it was evening the owner of the vineyard said to his manager, 'Call the workers and give the pay starting with the last hired until the first.'  When those hired about five o'clock came, each received a full day's pay.  And when those hired first came, they thought they would receive more.  But each one also received the standard wage.  When they received it, they began to complain against the landowner, saying,' These last fellows worked one hour, and you have made them equal to us who bore the hardship and burning heat of the day.'  And the landowner replied to one of them, 'Friend, I am not treating you unfairly. Didn't you agree with me to work for the standard wage?  Take what is yours and go. I want to give to this last man the same as I gave to you.  Am I not permitted to do what I want with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?' So the last will be first, and the the first last."

Subject: A Covenant or a Contract

  • When we think someone is 'shorting' us, we get angry.
  • Don't fall into the 'anger' mode.
  • We are the ones called to be different.
  • The landowner in this lesson rebukes the workers in a nice way by reminding the workers that he had done the hiring.
  • God's grace is undeserved by us. It is God's gift to us.
  • 1 Corinthians 15:9-10 - For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.  But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me has not been in vain.  If fact, I worked harder than all of them - yet not I, but the grace of God with me.
  • We should be will to go into the vineyards and work, willingly.
  • God is no respecter of persons.

August 9, 2020

 Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant; Shiloh

 and Mt. Pleasant Baptist!

Prayer: Rev. Pelton

Scripture: Proverbs 16:1-7 - The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord.  All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weighs the spirits. Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.  The Lord has made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.  Everyone that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.  By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.  When a man's ways please the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.;

1 Timothy 5:10 - Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work,;

and 2 Timothy 3:1-9 - But understand this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, savage, opposed to what is good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, loving pleasure rather than loving God. They will maintain the outward appearance of religion but will have repudiated its power. So avoid people like these.  For some of these insinuate themselves into households and captivate weak women who are overwhelmed with sins and led along by various passions.  Such women are always seeking instruction yet never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.  And just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these people - who have warped minds and are disqualified in the faith - also oppose the truth.  But they will not go much further, for their foolishness will be obvious to everyone, just like it was with Jannes and Jambres.

Subject: The Qualities of a Godly Leader

Everything rises and falls on leadership

  • A godly leader seeks their direction from God.  Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33
  • A godly leader is modest, humble and honest.
  • A godly leader is a peace maker.

Greetings from Brown Chapel/Avant; Shiloh Baptist
and Mt. Pleasant Baptist
Prayer by Pastor Baggett
This is the day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice in it!
Scripture: Acts 11:26 - And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught must people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
Text: What It Means To Be A Christian

  • Matthew 7:21-23 - Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter into the kingdom of heaven - only the one who does the will of my father in heaven.  On that day, many will say to me, "Lord, Lord, didn't we prophesy in your name, and in your name cast out demons and do many powerful deeds?'  Then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you. Go away from me, you lawbreakers!'
  • We must receive Jesus Christ into out lives - 2 Corinthians 5:17 - Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
  • Except you repent, you will pass away. Colossians 2:6-7 - Sine you have accepted Christ Jesus as Lord, live in union with Him. Keep your roots deep in Him, build your lives on Him, and become stronger in your faith, as you were taught. And be filled with thanksgiving.
  • We must resemble Christ. Forgiveness is one of the qualities of Christ. (Remember the story of the Good Samaritan Luke 10:25-37)
  • We shall reign with Christ. 2 Timothy 2:12 - If we endure, we will also reign with Him. If we disown Him, He will also disown us....

  2. Lean and depend on Jesus. We need to rely on God in all things. Trust in the Lord with our whole body, spirit and mind. Psalm 37:40 - And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: He shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in Him.

Happy Mother's Day from Brown Chapel/Avant; Shiloh Baptist and Mt. Pleasant Baptist

Prayer by Pastor Baggett
Proverbs 31:28 - Her children rise up and call her blessed, her husband also praises her:
Subject: Qualities of a Godly Mother

Mother is always concerned about the well-being of her family.
Five qualities of a godly mother:

  1. Mother is loyal, faithful, just & righteous as God are all these things through Jesus Christ.
  2. Mother is one who listens to her children. She listens with compassion as God listens and hears us through Jesus Christ.  1 John 5:14 - This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
  3. Mother is a lifter up of her child's spirit. Mom is with you through thick and thin as God is with us through Jesus Christ.  We should edify others.  Romans 14:19 - Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.
  4. Mother is one that laughs (rejoices) with her children as God rejoiced as He gave His only Son to the world.  We are to rejoice always from 1 Thessalonians 5:16
  5. Mother is one that loves as we all know God is Love.  John 15:13 - Greater love has no man that this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Sermon John 10:10-13 - The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have like, and that they might have it more abundantly.  I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd give his life for the sheep.  But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, see the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep, and flees: and the wolf catches them, and scatters the sheep.  The hireling flees, becausee he is an hireling, and cares not for the sheep.
Subject:  Having Jesus Christ In Our Homes

  1. We are home bound because of Covid-19 at this time but we have an advocate.
  2. If Christ is in our homes, we are not misguided, bored or left with nothing to do.
  3. Jesus came so that we may have life and have it more abundantly. John 10:10
  4. With God's presence through Jesus Christ in our homes, allows us to have pray time and a closeness with Him and with our families.
The Home
  • Home is a place that should allow us to communicate in private with God and build our relationships with family and others. Home is where the "heart" is and "love" is.
  • Home is a place of liberation if we allow Jesus in.  Jesus said in Revelation 3:20 - Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
Jesus brings that peace of God that surpasses all understanding and will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
  • Home is a place where we are lifted up, not by our own words or actions but by others. We are to lift one another up. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 - Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.  Hebrews 10:24-25 - And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good words, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.  Romans 14-19 - So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual up-building.  Proverbs 27-17 - Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.
  • Home is a place of love. God is love from 1 John 4:7. From John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Sacrament was given via phone to each household.

April 26, 2020 - Conference Call

Greetings from Brown Chapel/Avant; Shiloh Baptist and Mt. Pleasant Baptist
Prayer by Pastor Baggett
Sermon from 1 Corinthians 13:13 - And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Subject: LOVE

  • We need to understand the precept of God. God is love.
  • The love of "things" is a worldly and human thing not of God.
  • Romans 12:2 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and prefect, will of God.
  • Our foundation is built on God.
  • Mark 12:31 - The second is this: "Love your neighbor as yourself." No other commandment is greater than these.
  • 1 John 4:20-21 - If a man say, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar: for he that loves not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?  And this commandment have we from him is this: that the one who loves God should love his brother also.
  • 1 John 4:1 - Try the spirit by the spirit.
  • Ephesians 6:12 - For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
  • LOVE is our weapon against this world.
  • John 3:16 -  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.
  • Faith is necessary for our salvation. In John 14:6 Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth and the life." So God's requirement of faith in Jesus the Christ for salvation is primary to eternal life.
  • Finally, Revelation 21:4 - And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Greetings from Brown Chapel/ Avant, Shiloh and Mt. Pleasant church families!
Prayer by Rev. Pelton
Sermon by Pastor Baggett
John 3:1-3 - Now a certain man, a Pharisee named Nicodemus, who was a member of the Jewish ruling council, same to Jesus at night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God.  For no one could perform the miraculous signs that you do unless God is with him." Jesus replied, "I tell you the solemn truth, unless a person is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Subject:What Does It Mean To Be Born Again?

  1. We are REDEEMED!  We must be born again. Jesus paid it all. Repent of our sins and accept Jesus as the savior.
  2. We are heirs of God. We are received (adopted) into the family of God.
  3. We are reformed. We have a new life. 2 Corinthians 5:17 - Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
  4. John 8:36 - So if the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.

Easter Conference Call

Happy Easter from Brown Chapel/Avant, Shiloh Baptist and Mt. Pleasant Baptist!

Prayer by Rev. Pelton
Song: The Old Rugged Cross
Romans 8:37 - Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.
Subject:How To Be More Than Conquerors
Sermon by Pastor Baggett

  1. We can be more than conquerors through our prayer lives. Through everything life's journey great and small, pray without ceasing.  Luke 18:1 - Then Jesus told them a parable to show them they should always pray and not faint.
  2. We are conquerors with the promises of God. 2 Corinthians 1:20 - For every one of God's promises are "Yes" in him; therefore also through him the "Amen" is spoken, to the glory we give to God.  Luke 18:9-14 - Jesus also told this parable to some who were confident that they were righteous and looked down on everyone else.  "Two men went up to the temple to pray, on a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.  The Pharisee stood and prayed about himself like this: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other people: extortionists, unrighteous people, adulterers - or even like this tax collector.  I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of everything I get.'  The tax collector, however, stood far off and would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, be merciful to me, sinner that I am!'
  3. We are conquerors with the peace of God.  Philippians 4:7 - And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Psalms 1:1-6 - How blessed is the one who does not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand in the pathway with sinners, or sit in the assembly of scoffers! Instead he finds pleasure in obeying the LORD's commands; he meditates on his commands day and night.  He is like a tree planted by flowing streams; it yields its fruit at the proper time, and its leaves never fall off. He succeeds in everything he attempts.  Not so with the wicked! Instead they are like wind-driven chaff.  For this reason the wicked cannot withstand judgment, nor can sinners join the assembly of the godly.  Certainly the LORD guards the way of the godly, but the way of the wicked ends in destruction. Proverbs 3:4 - They you will find favor and good understanding, in the sight of God and people.
  4. We are conquerors by giving God praises.  Psalms 150:6 - Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Hallelujah!  John 12:32 - And, if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men unto me.
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow!

Sermon
Isaiah 40:27-31 - Why do you say, Jacob, Why do you say, Israel, "The LORD is not aware of what is happening to me, My God is not concerned with my vindication"?  Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is an eternal God, the creator of the whole earth. He does not get tired or weary; there is no limit to His wisdom.  He gives strength to those who are tired; to the ones who lack power, He gives renewed energy.  Even youths get tired and weary; even strong young men shall utterly fall:  But those who wait for the LORD's help find renewed strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.
Subject: They shall mount up with wings as eagles!
Sub-topic: On The Wings of Love

  • How many of us are tired, weary, had some rough days, facing difficulties, or just seem to be overwhelmed?
  • Welcome to the human race.
  • Sometimes you feel you're hanging on by a thread or you're doing the "moonwalk" (going backwards).
  • You're spiritually sick but otherwise healthy.
  • Are you a mighty human verses the Almighty God who is all powerful. God doesn't get tired.
  • God is everlasting. He is the only one who keeps going and going and going.
  • God is the Creator. His is the First and the Last.  He is the Word.
  • Only God knows all about us and understands all.
  •  Are you like hummingbird - flapping your wings furiously or an eagle who soaring above it all?

Sermon
Psalm 22:1-5 - My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? I groan in prayer, but help seems far away.  My God, I cry out during the day, but you do not answer, and during the night my prayers do not let up.  You are holy; You sit as King receiving the praises of Israel.  In You our anestors trusted; they trusted in You and you rescued them.  To You they cried our, and they were saved; in You they trusted and there were not disappointed.

Subject: How We Find Strength For The New Year

Where are we to find strength?

  1. Past blessing should be reflected on. Philippians 4:6-7 - Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God.  And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding with guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
  2. Anticipate challenges to come your way. Ephesians 6:10-19 - The Whole Armor of God

We have two choices - Sweat and worry or be pro-active by pressing toward the mark of the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus - Philippians 3:14

Isaiah 40:31 - but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
All of our help comes from God. Psalm 121:2
We can't avoid the storm but God will lift and guide us through it.

God, All By Himself

God is infinitely far above our ability to fully understand who He really is but He tells us through the Scriptures.
God is Jehovah. The name of the independent, self-complete being – “I AM WHO I AM.”  Exodus 6:3 – And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not know to them. Psalm 83:18 – That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth. Isaiah 26:4 – Trust ye in the Lord forever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.

God is Jehovah-M’Kaddesh. This name means “the God who sanctifies.” God, who is separated from all that is evil requires that the people who follow Him be cleansed from all evil. Leviticus 20:7-8 – Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the Lord your God. And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the Lord which sanctify (to set apart or separate) you.

We, as Christians (believers in Christ) have 3 aspects of sanctification.

(1)           Positional = Justification – positional change occurs the moment we trust in Jesus Christ. Justification comes the moment we trust Christ.

(2)           Progressive = Sanctification = progressive growth is becoming more like Christ. It begins when we are saved and continues until we die. Romans 8 28-29 – And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose, because those whom He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that His Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

We are sanctified on the basis or our redemption in Christ – no redemption, no sanctification.

(3)           Permanent = Glorification – This is the permanent change that awaits every believer. 1 Corinthians 15:50-52 – Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

This speaks of the time when we will exchange our old bodies for new bodies. This is the glorification.
How does Jehovah-M’Kaddesh bring
about sanctification?

(a)           Through the Word of His truth.  John 17:17-19 – Sanctify them through thy truth: they word is truth. As thou has sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

(b)           Sometimes through chastisement. Hebrews12:10-11 – For they disciplined (chastened) us for a little while as seemed good to them, but he does so for our benefit, that we may share his holiness. Now all discipline seems painful at the time, not joyful. But later it produces the fruit of peace and righteousness for those trained by it.

(c)            Through personal discipline. Psalm 139:23 – Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts.

Romans 12:1-2 – Therefore I exhort you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice – alive holy, and pleasing to God – which is your reasonable service.  Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God – what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.

Sermon
Matthew 2:2 - "Where is the one who is born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him."
Subject: The Real Christmas Star!

Traditions:
  • Cut down a tree or buy a tree
  • Decorate tree with lights, balls, etc.
  • Place star on top of tree

  • Advent means the coming or arrival.
  • Epiphany means the manifestation of Christ.
  • The Word in the flesh is Jesus the Christ.
  • The morning star is the brightest star before the sun rises.
  • Question? Could anyone tell by looking at you that Jesus lives in you?
  • Are you a flicker of light or a blazing flame of light?

For the light to shine in us we must....
  1. Purge sin from our lives
  2. Recognize Jesus as King of kings and Lord of lords.
  3. Be guided or led by the one real Christmas Star.

And His name shall be called (Isaiah 9:6) Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
