Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Subject: Trusting God's Plan When Life Doesn't Make Sense

1. God has a plan for each and every one of us.
2. 
   
3. This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.  Psalms 118:24
4. 
   
5. Do not let others blur the lines of the kingdom of God and evil doings.
6. 
   
7. We can trust in the only one who knows what's really going on.
8. 
   
9. Trust requires our surrender to God.
10. 
    
11. Trust with all of our whole self and not just a part of us.
12. 
    
13. Abraham, Mary, Noah and even Jesus trusted God in their times of need, just to name a few from the bible. So if they needed God, you know we surely need him.

15. Our finite minds only see a narrow portion of things but God sees all.
16. 
    
17. God's thoughts are not our thoughts and neither are his ways our.
18. 
    
19. Trusting God means inviting him into our lives.
20. 
    
21. Do our plans align with God's will?

23. Remember his is Lord and he is God all by himself.

25. By trusting God, he will order our steps.

27. God's word is a lamp unto our feet. Psalm 119:105

29. God's grace can redeem us when we make a wrong turn.

31. Romans 8:28 - And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the call according to his purpose.

33. If God can bring resurrection out of an old rugged cross, he can bring you out of your situation because he has a plan for you if we just surrender to him.

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Subject: Our Frustration is not Faith in God

• The news of the day is always blasting on the television. There seems to be no justice or peace.
• In the lesson today, we must trust in God and his Word. 
• Do not lean on our own understanding.
• God's Word is a comfort to us.
• Frustration is a common feeling we all experience.  But we do not need to "live" in it.
• We know, as Christians, that God is in control.
• In frustration we tend to give up, close down, throw up our hands, etc.
• Frustration focuses on the problem, but faith focuses on a calming spirit, washed in the Word of God.
• O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.  Psalm 34:3
• O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusts in him. Psalm 34:8
• We must be convicted in the Lord and not in our own control.
• We must remember that God's will be done.
• We must surrender to God and allow Him to guide us. 
• Faith doesn't change our circumstances right away, but we must be patient and wait on the Lord.
• A double minded person is unstable in all his ways.  James 1:8
• Don't be double minded.
• Our God is good, faithful and His ways are not our ways.
• Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6-7
• Faith doesn't panic and the process takes time. So, we must be patient.
• Psalm 46:1-11 - 

1 God is our refuge and strength,

• an ever-present help in times of trouble.

  2Therefore we will not fear,

  though the earth is transformed

  and the mountains are toppled

  into the depths of the seas,

  3though their waters roar and foam

  and the mountains quake in the surge.

  
  

  4There is a river whose streams delight the city of God,

  the holy place where the Most High dwells.

  5God is within her; she will not be moved.

  God will help her when morning dawns.

  6Nations rage, kingdoms crumble;

  the earth melts when He lifts His voice.

  7The LORD of Hosts is with us;

  the God of Jacob is our fortress.

  
  

  8Come, see the works of the LORD,

  who brings devastation upon the earth.

  9He makes wars to cease throughout the earth;

  He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;

  He burns the shields in the fire.

  10“Be still and know that I am God;

  I will be exalted among the nations,

  I will be exalted over the earth.”

  11The LORD of Hosts is with us;

  the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Scripture: Proverbs 29:16 - When wicked are multiplied, transgression increases: but the righteous shall see their fall.

Subject: Hold On, I'm Coming

• We sure could use a little good news today.
• It seems that we are in an alternative world.
• We need to hang on to the Word which is Jesus.
• We need a Damascus situation in this time in our lives. Acts 9:3-9
• We are living in wicked times but we Christians can rejoice in the Lord.
• Is there a difference between evil and wickedness?
• Evil is the opposite of good.  Wickedness is the opposite of righteousness.
• Evil was in the Garden of Eden tempting Eve.
• When Herod ordered his soldiers to kill every male child, this was wickedness, maliciousness. 
• We can recognize wickedness by those who mislead, rush to judgment, put out alternative facts, they will tell you that you didn't see what you saw, will not take responsibility for anything, withhold information at all costs, etc.
• Fret not for evil doers for they will be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.  Psalm 37:9
• Ecclesiastes 3 (Read entire chapter)
• Be ye steadfast Unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58
• So let us not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up.  Galatians 6:9
• We must hold on because Jesus is coming back.

Subject: Our Words Matter

• Our choice of words has a profound impact on others. So be mindful of speaking calmly and wisely.
• The words we use can either build bridges or tear them down.
• Words can influence others and even ones-self. 
• What do we say when we talk to ourselves? (that internal voice)
• Every good and perfect gift comes from above. James 1:17
• God has given us a voice. How do we use that voice when speaking to others.
• Proverbs 11:13 - He who goes about talking of others makes secrets public, but the true-hearted man keeps things covered.
• Proverbs 12:18 - There are some whose uncontrolled talk is like the wounds of a sword, but the tongue of the wise makes one well again.
• Proverbs 6:16-19 - Six things are hated by the Lord; seven things are disgusting to him: Eyes of pride, a false tongue, hands which take like without cause; A heart full of evil designs, feet which are quick in running after sin; A false witness, breathing out untrue words, and one who lets loose violent acts among brothers.
• You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. Exodus 20:16
• Words matter!
• Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32
• If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. 2 Corinthians 5:15
• In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

Scripture: Proverbs 12:25 - Care in the heart of a man makes it weighted down, but a good word makes it glad.

Subject: How To Deal With Anxiety 

• What is your strategy for coping with stress?
• Worry and anxiety are 60% of what people have in their lives today. Some of the worry & anxiety are things that may never happen.
• We need to find a way to deal with this.
• Psalm 55:6 - Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.
• John 16:33 - I have said all these things to you so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble: but take heart! I have overcome the world.
• There is no value when moving from anxiety to worry.
• Worry demonstrates our lack of faith in God.
• Without faith it is impossible to please God. Hebrews 11:6
• Matthew 6:27 - And which of you by taking thought is able to make himself a cubit taller?
• Worry affects our whole body.
• John 1:1 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
• The Word of God is our solution.
• Matthew 6:31-32 - Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or wherewithal shall we be clothed?  For after all these things do the Gentiles seek: for your heavenly Father knows you have need of all these things.
• Jesus says that he knows the plans for us. Jeremiah 29:11
• If God be with you, He is more than the world against you. Romans 8:31
• The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not want. Psalm 23

Scripture: Proverbs 26:4 - Do not answer fool according to his folly, lest you yourself also be like him.

Subject: Maintaining a Quiet Spirit

• Discord often stems from pride, jealousy, envy, etc.
• But we as Christians are accountable to God in the way we handle things.
• Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18
• Discord destroys relationships.
• James 1:19 - Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger.
• More can be accomplished by being calm in a stressful situation.
• Maintaining a quiet spirit - seek you first the kingdom - Matthew 6:33; ask for a discerning spirit from God in prayer; Seek a divine perspective ....all things work for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28); and finally, we must implement what God requires.
• We must have a forgiving spirit.

Text: Nine Qualities of a Godly Leader - Conclusion

• A godly leader is humble. From Proverbs 16:18 - Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
• A godly leader is sensible and kind. Philippians 2:3 - Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.
• A godly leader is slow to anger. Proverbs 15:1 - A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Ecclesiastes 7:9 - Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the heart of fools.

Subject: Nine Qualities of a Godly Leader

Everything rises or falls on leadership

• Fair and just is a godly leader.  Proverbs 16:8 - Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.
• Do not become like those who oppress.
• Surround oneself with good and trustworthy counsel is a godly leader.  Proverbs 16:13 - Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaks right.
• A godly leader is someone who is interested in learning. 2 Timothy 2:15 - Study to show yourself approved unto God.
• We must listen to godly counsel.

Proverbs 31:28 - Her children rise up and call her blessed, her husband also praises her:
Subject: Qualities of a Godly Mother

Mother is always concerned about the well-being of her family.

Five qualities of a godly mother:

1. Mother is loyal, faithful, just & righteous as God are all these things through Jesus Christ.  
2. Mother is one who listens to her children. She listens with compassion as God listens and hears us through Jesus Christ.  1 John 5:14 - This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
3. Mother is a lifter up of her child's spirit. Mom is with you through thick and thin as God is with us through Jesus Christ.  We should edify others.  Romans 14:19 - Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.
4. Mother is one that laughs (rejoices) with her children as God rejoiced as He gave His only Son to the world.  We are to rejoice always from 1 Thessalonians 5:16
5. Mother is one that loves as we all know God is Love.  John 15:13 - Greater love has no man that this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Conference Call!

Brown Chapel & Avant Church Families and our neighboring church family, Shiloh Baptist, held our first community-wide conference call.

Psalms 42:5 - Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait of God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention.
Subject: How Do We Beat The Blues?

 We are dealing with the Covid-19 virus, unemployment, life's uncertainties but we, as Christians, have hope.

Five Points

1. We should be focused on things that are positive. From Philippians 4:8 - Whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, it something is excellent or praiseworthy, think on those things.
2. Look for the purpose of what God wants from us. In other words, His will be done. (a) Our trials and tribulations are going to happen throughout our lives. They should strengthen us.
3. Utilize God's promises for us.  Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding.  Acknowledge Him all your ways, and He will direct your paths.
4. Take time to encourage others.
5. Sing praises to our God! Give God the praise. Psalms 150:1 Praise ye the Lord, Praise God in His sanctuary: praise Him in the firmament of His power.  Romans 15:11 - And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud Him, all ye people. (a) Obedience is better than sacrifice.
