Subject: Breaking Down Walls

• We are divided even in our church services. 
• We are supposed to be praying to the same god but we have so many differences that distract us from the Word.
• Racism, hatred, arguments, opposite political views, cultural problems....the list goes on and on.
• What does God require of us? He requires us to break down walls and love one another. 
• We must remember that everyone was made in God's image. 
• There are no superior races.
• God's image comes in every race and language.  We are all one in Jesus Christ.
• Our worth is not about the color of our skin or the way we speak. 
• Social class does not matter when it comes to God.
• God wants everyone to know Him.
• The enemy (Satan) want division, but Christ wants reconcilition.
• Love is the key. It breaks down walls.
• We must show mercy and humility towards others.
• We become a living testimony when we show love to others. 
• The wall must come down.
• Christ died to break every chain.
• Jesus paid it all. 
•

Subject: God Is Not Running For Office

• Praise ye the Lord!
• Do not believe in man-made things.
• Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33
• God is our all and all.
• God is the only one who is the same yesterday, today and always. Hebrews 13:8
• We must be discerning in all things.
• We must rebuke in kindness & love.
• Do not get caught up in human idols. 
• No human on this earth is divine. Only God!
• We are blessed because:
• Our God is a jealous. Exodus 34:14
• For I am the Lord & I change not. Malachi 3:6
• The blood that Jesus shed for me will never lose its power.
• Our God is all powerful.
• He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords.
• The Word of God will last forever.
• Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' love and righteousness

Scripture: 2 Samuel 12:7 - And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man.

Subject: When Prophets Are Silent

• No man can or should be compared to Jesus the Christ, who is without sin.
• We must rebuke anyone who proclaims to be just like Christ. 
• When prophets remain silent then sin runs rampant.
• We can't cover up our sin by manipulating situations.
• Nathan came to deliver a word from God to David.
• We should choose godly council.
• Psalm 1:1-6 - 1Blessed is the man
• who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,

• or set foot on the path of sinners,

  or sit in the seat of mockers.

  2But his delight is in the Law of the LORD,

  and on His law he meditates day and night.

  3He is like a tree planted by streams of water,

  yielding its fruit in season,

  whose leaf does not wither,

  and who prospers in all he does.

  4Not so the wicked!

  For they are like chaff driven off by the wind.

  5Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,

  nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

  6For the LORD guards the path of the righteous,

  but the way of the wicked will perish.

• We must remain on the right path and pray.
• If we are not compassionate towards others, we are lost.
• James 2:15-17 - If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, 'Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what does it profit?' Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
• Don't be a Christian is name only!
• Faith without good deeds is dead! James2:14-26

Scripture: 2 Samuel 12:1-7 - The Lord sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, “There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor. The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle, but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him. “Now a traveler came to the rich man, but the rich man refrained from taking one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare a meal for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the ewe lamb that belonged to the poor man and prepared it for the one who had come to him.” David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan, “As surely as the Lord lives, the man who did this must die! He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity.” Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. 

Subject: Where is Nathan?

• Are we devoted to our faith?
• Nathan teaches us a very important lesson. That is God is not impressed with titles, or leadership positions. We must always be help accountable for our misdeeds and wrongdoings.
• 2 Timothy 3:16 - All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
• We must speak truth to power. In other words, tell it like it is!
• We must never abuse power. Unchecked power is destructive. 
• Unchecked power will always rewrite the rules, bulldoze over everyone, destroy, etc.
• We must stand up to the wrongdoings of others.
• Nathan did not just condemn David. He rebuked David with the purpose of turning his heart back to the Lord, to be restored.
•  David repented and said that he had sinned against the Lord.
• We must come back to a forgiving God.
• Isaiah 6:8 - Then I heard the Lord asking, "Whom should I sent as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?" I said, "Here I am. Send me."
• We must stand firm, be ready!

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Subject: Our Frustration is not Faith in God

• The news of the day is always blasting on the television. There seems to be no justice or peace.
• In the lesson today, we must trust in God and his Word. 
• Do not lean on our own understanding.
• God's Word is a comfort to us.
• Frustration is a common feeling we all experience.  But we do not need to "live" in it.
• We know, as Christians, that God is in control.
• In frustration we tend to give up, close down, throw up our hands, etc.
• Frustration focuses on the problem, but faith focuses on a calming spirit, washed in the Word of God.
• O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.  Psalm 34:3
• O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusts in him. Psalm 34:8
• We must be convicted in the Lord and not in our own control.
• We must remember that God's will be done.
• We must surrender to God and allow Him to guide us. 
• Faith doesn't change our circumstances right away, but we must be patient and wait on the Lord.
• A double minded person is unstable in all his ways.  James 1:8
• Don't be double minded.
• Our God is good, faithful and His ways are not our ways.
• Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6-7
• Faith doesn't panic and the process takes time. So, we must be patient.
• Psalm 46:1-11 - 

1 God is our refuge and strength,

• an ever-present help in times of trouble.

  2Therefore we will not fear,

  though the earth is transformed

  and the mountains are toppled

  into the depths of the seas,

  3though their waters roar and foam

  and the mountains quake in the surge.

  
  

  4There is a river whose streams delight the city of God,

  the holy place where the Most High dwells.

  5God is within her; she will not be moved.

  God will help her when morning dawns.

  6Nations rage, kingdoms crumble;

  the earth melts when He lifts His voice.

  7The LORD of Hosts is with us;

  the God of Jacob is our fortress.

  
  

  8Come, see the works of the LORD,

  who brings devastation upon the earth.

  9He makes wars to cease throughout the earth;

26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, 27 to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And he came to her and said, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.” 29 But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. 30 The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David. 33 He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” 34 Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?” 35 The angel said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called Son of God. 36 And now, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month for her who was said to be barren. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God.” 38 Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

Subject: The Magic or the Miracle of Christmas

• A miracle is something that God can do.
• When an angel appeared to Mary to tell her that she was highly favored and would conceive a child & she consented, a miracle happened.
• Using our sanctified imagination, we can possibly envision this great event has the angel said that the baby would be named Jesus.
• We know that God's Will is to be done.
• What are some miracles in the bible?
• Another miracle was the parting of the Red Sea.
• Another miracle was when Paul & Silar were in jail and the walls came tumbling down.
• Turning water into wine.
• Miracles and magic are not the same things.
•  And the Word became flesh and dwelled among us.
• Magic? ..... NO!
• The birth of Jesus was a miracle.

Scripture: Matthew 7:1-2 - Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

Subject: Correctly Exercising Judgment

• We are not the final judge.
• We should use a spirit of discernment. We need to cultivate the gift of discernment which is knowing right from wrong; knowing truth from lies; knowing how to make wise decisions: etc.
• Jesus knows the heart of every person & he wants us to watch out for those who come with falsehoods. 
• By their fruits you will know them. Matthew 7:15-20
• Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Matthew 7:21-23
• Jesus says that obedience is better than sacrifice. 1 Samuel 15:22
• We need to stay away from the wrong crowd. Use discernment (use good judgment)
• Jesus was able to share his teachings even among his enemies.
• It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.  Mark 2:17 & Matthew 9:12
• Are we able to be discerning?

Scripture: Psalms 34:1 - I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

Subject: Some of the Benefits of Praising God 

• Giving God praise allows God to act in our lives.
• We should praise God without ceasing. Praising Him in the morning, all day, at work, when we are sad, etc.
• 1 Thessalonians 5:18 - In everything give praise: for this is the purpose of God in Christ Jesus for you.
• Praising God gives us peace, gives us the victory.
• God unlocks prison doors that bound us. Finances, work problems, family situations, etc. Praise God in all trials.
• If I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men unto me. John 12:32
• We are here for a higher purpose. God has a plan for each of us.
• Psalms 16:11 - You will make clear to me that way of life; where you are joy is complete; in your right hand there are pleasures forever and ever.

Scripture: Acts 1:4,5,8 - And when they were all together, with him, he gave them orders not to go away from Jerusalem, but to keep there, waiting till the word of the Father was put into effect, of which, he said, I have given you knowledge: For the baptism with the Holy Spirit, after a little time. But you will have power, when the Holy Spirit has come on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judaea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.  Acts 2:1-4 - And when the day of Pentecost was come, they were all together in one place.  And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like the rushing of a violent wind, and all the house where they were was full of it.  And they were all full of the Holy Spirit, and were talking in different languages, as the Spirit gave them power. 

Subject: The Day of Pentecost

• The feast of weeks; of harvest - Pentecost
• The falling down of the Holy Spirit onto the disciples in the upper room.
• Acts 2 tells the Good News of Jesus Christ.
• Matthew 28:19-20 - Go then, and make disciples of all the nations, giving them baptism in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: Teaching them to keep all the rules which I have given you: and see, I am ever with you, even to the end of the world.
• The disciples obey Jesus; receive power from on high; & share the message with others.
• Wait until the power comes upon the disciples. As they waited, they prayed.
• Man must always pray and not faint. Luke 18:1
• Obedience is better than sacrifice.
• We must have "holy boldness" as Peter had and how the disciples received when the Holy Spirit came upon them.
• We must tell others about the Good News.

Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesses not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.  Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Subject: Greater Is He That Is In You, Than He That Is In The World

• Hosea 4:6 - Destruction has overtaken my people because they have no knowledge.
• People are sometimes lead astray.
• A lack of knowledge will lead to destruction.
• Christian's salvation is assured.
• Don't be fooled by false prophets.
• Are you listening to something that sounds good? Don't be fooled.
• When the Word of God is denied by churches, their foundation crumbles and falls away from God.
• Some spirits are not of God, so beware; be on your guard; be discerning.
• We must study to show ourselves approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.  2 Timothy 2:15
• Matthew 24:5 - For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
• Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and yours minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:5-7
• Christians guard your hearts and mines and lead on the Lord.

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

2When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

3Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.

4One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.

5For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.

6And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.

Subject: The Heart of a Warrior

• We know that we are on the battlefield for our Lord and we are soldiers in the army of the Lord.
• We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.  Ephesians 6:12
• The physical heart is an organ that pumps blood, but the spiritual heart is our path to God.
• The enemy will always attempt to wage war against us. This is Satan's mission.
• We must be prepared for anything that comes our way. We must put on the whole armor of God.
•  Be prepared with these precepts: We must focus on God: We must have full confidence in God's awesome power: We must practice fellowship with God: We must worship in the house of the Lord: We must seek God's face: We must live an upright life & please God.
• They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
• Prayer is always welcome in this Christian life.

Scripture: Luke 2:8-11 - 8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Subject: How to Choose & Receive the Perfect Gift

What gifts represent:

• A gift can represent our status.
• A gift can represent the value of the person receiving the gift.
• A gift can be given as a symbol of good will.
• Romans 8:32 - Indeed, he who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for  us all - how will he not also, along with him, freely give us all things?
• God gave his best, his Son.
• For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son. That whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  John 3:16
• Romans 3:23-24 - For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. But hey are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. 
• Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Subject: A Really Touch Demand

• 3 keys to a wonderful Christian life: be joyful; constantly pray; & in everything give thanks.
• Some passages are easier said than done.
• Giving thanks in all things is sometimes hard to swallow.
• We have a Comforter who helps us to give thank in all things.....the Holy Spirit.
• Psalms 92:1-2 - It is fitting to thank the Lord, and to sing praises to your name, O sovereign One! It is fitting to proclaim your loyal love in the morning and your faithfulness during the night.
• Talking to God allows us to refocus our problems from ourselves and to focus on God.
• Be still and know that I Am God. Psalm 46:10

Scripture:  Psalm 23 - The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He makes me to lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. You prepare a feast before me in plain sight of my enemies. You refresh me head with oil; my cup is completely full,. Surely your goodness and faithfulness will pursue me all my days, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.

Subject: God is with us!

• David was a man after God's own heart.
• Valleys are symbols of  a period of hardship.
• But God in verse 4 is with us.
• God walks with us daily.
• God will give us his strength.
• All things work for the good to those who love God, to hose who are the called according to His purpose.  Romans 8:28
• In a valley experience, we should grow and become stronger in the Lord.
• Lean and depend on the Lord.....don't stand by yourself.
• Emanuel = God with us!

Annual Conference Coming Up

The North Texas Annual Conference of the 10th Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church will be held September 26-29, 2018 at Smith Chapel AME Church, Dallas, Texas. Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie is the Presiding Prelate.

Peter and John come before the Council: Ananias and Sapphira

• The Council did not like that Peter and John healed the lame man in the name of Jesus and that thousands had heard about the miracle, so they had them arrested.
• The Council demanded the two disciples tell by what was the lame man healed.
• Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Are we being questioned for doing a good deed?"
• "The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone." v11
• "There is salvation in no one else! There is no other name in all of heaven for people to call on to save them." v12
• The Council could not punish the disciples because the many people who had gathered would not have been pleased. So the Council commanded that the disciples never again speak or teach about Jesus.
• But Peter and John replied, "Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than Him? We cannot stop telling about the wonderful things we have seen and heard." v19-20
• The believers united and lifted their voices in prayer.
• After they prayed (see vs24-30) the building where they were meeting, shook and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. And they preached God's message with boldness.
• All the believers were of one heart and mind. They sold what they owned feeling that it was not theirs to begin with.
• The apostles gave powerful witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus and God's great favor was upon them all. 
• There was no poverty among them because people who owned land or houses sold them and brought the money to the apostles to give to others in need.
• Ananias and Sapphira sold some property, took some of the money to the apostles but claimed it was the full amount.
• Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit and you kept some of the money for yourself. The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it the money was yours to give away. How could yo do a thing like this? You weren't lying to us but to God."
• When Ananias heard the last words, he fell to the floor dead.
• Later his wife Sapphira came to Peter. When Peter questioned her about the amount, she lied as well. 
• Peter said, "How could the two of you even think of doing a thing like this, conspiring together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Just outside the door are the young men who buried your husband, and they will carry you out too."  Instantly she fell to the floor dead.
• The apostles continued to perform many miraculous signs and wonders among the people. When word came to the high priest and his friends, the Sadducees, they reacted with violent jealousy. They had the apostles arrested and jailed but an angel of the Lord came at night and opened the fates of the jail and released them.
• The apostles entered the Temple and began teaching. When the high priest and officials convened the high council and sent guards to retrieve the apostles. But the guards reported that the jail was locked with guards outside. All were perplexed.
• When the apostles were found and brought before the council Peter told them, "We must obey God rather than human authority. The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead after you killed Him by crucifying Him. Then God put Him in the place of honor at His right hand as Prince and Savior. He did this to give the people of Israel an opportunity to turn from their sins and turn to God so their sins would be forgiven. We are witnesses of these things and so is the Holy Spirit, who is given by God to those who obey Him."
• A Pharisee named Gamaliel, spoke with the council privately and persuaded them to leave the apostles alone when he recounted the stories of Theudas and Judas of Galilee. The council wisely took his advice.

Sermon

2 Corinthians 3:12-18 - Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. v13 We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. v14 But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. v15 Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. v16 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. v17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. v18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into His image with every-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

Subject: "I have Been Changed"

• We are no longer bound by the law.
• We are new creatures in Christ.
• Because of the blood of Jesus, we are changed.
• A Christian is transformed spiritually through Jesus.
• A change on the inside reflects on the outside.
• Behavioral modification as compared to spiritual transformation:

Why does God place His Spirit in us?

1. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. Timothy 1:7
2. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
3. But the person who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him. 1 Corinthians 6:17
4. May He grant you out of the rich treasury of His glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in the inner man by the Holy Spirit [Himself indwelling your innermost being and personality]. May Christ through your faith dwell in your hearts! May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love. Ephesians 3:16-17

• The Holy Spirit has to dwell in us.
• We must be follower in Christ.
• Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls.  Matthew 11:29
• Christ came to fulfill the law.
• The law brings death but grace brings life everlasting.
• Liberty is where God is.
• We are counted righteous because of Jesus.
• Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus  Philippians 2:5
