About Prayer

Six Kinds of Prayer

  1. Prayer of Agreement - Matthew 18:19 - Again I tell you, if two of you on earth agree (harmonize together, make a symphony together) about whatever [anything and everything] they may ask, it will come to pass and be done for them by My Father in heaven.
  2. Prayer of Faith or Petition - Mark 11:24 - Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.  1 John 5:14-15 - This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of Him.  Philippians 4:6 - Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by praying and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
  3. Prayer of Dedication - Matthew 9:37-38 - Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field."
  4. Prayer of Intercession - Romans 8:26 - In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.   1 Corinthians 14:2 - For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.
  5. Prayer of Praise & Worship - Luke 2:15-20 -When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about." So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen Him, they spread the work concerning what had been told them about this child. and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
  6. Prayer of Binding & Loosing - Matthew 16:19 - I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.   John 20:23 - If you forgive anyone's sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."   Matthew 18:18 - "Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
Verses to Draw From

  • John 16:23-24 - In that day you will no longer ask Me anything. Very truly I tell you, My Father will give you whatever you ask in My name.
  • James 4:1-3 - What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. Then you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
  • Hebrews 4:12-16 - For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.  Therefore, since we have a great High Priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.  For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet He did not sin.  Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Formula for Praying

  • Decide what you want from God.
  • Find scripture that fits your need then say what the scripture says by inserting your own name.
  • Ask God for the things you want and believe and you will receive as long as you are in the "will of God."
