Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant & Mt. Pleasant

Prayer: Rev. Pelton

Scripture: Galatians 5:16-26Keep in Step with the Spirit 16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy,[a] drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do[b] such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Subject: Living Our Lives by the Spirit

  • The Fruit of the Spirit work to guide us positively.
  • There is a grave difference between the fleshly goals and the Fruit of the Spirit.
  • Our God created everything.
  • Genesis 1:12 - And the earth brough forth grass, herbs yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit, wherein is the seed thereof, after their kind: and God saw that it was good.
  • We as humans manufacture impure things.
  • We must get to know Jesus for ourselves.
  • Are we humans hopeless? God says "NO!" We must be born again.
  • We are completely dependent om the Holy Spirit for produce good fruit.
  • Matthew 7:17-1917 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
  • If we produce good fruit we should pass it on the next person or generation. In other words, man should be fruitful and multiply.
  • True believers do not sow hatred, name calling, deceit, lies, etc.
  • Love is the first fruit. 1 Corinthians13:13 - Faith, hope & love. The greatest of these is love.
  • John 3:16-18For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant and Mt. Pleasant

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: Galatians 4:4-7 - But when the appropriate time had come, God sent out his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we may be adopted as sons with full rights.  And because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, who calls "Abba! Father!" So you are no longer a slave but a son, and if you are a son, then you are also an heir through God.

Subject: The Meaning of Christmas

  • So people still do not realize the true meaning of Christmas.
  • Jesus was born, sent to us by God. We don't know the exact date so we celebrate December 25th.
  • The Advent = the coming of Christ
  • Some try to denounce the birth of Jesus.
  • Galatians were trying to turn away from God, so Paul wrote to them about the greatness of God.
  • God sent forth His Son through a woman.
  • Under the law was Jesus born to redeem us.
  • Jesus has divine origin. In Galatians 4:4 - But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son.
  • John 1:1 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.   (so we see Jesus was with God in the first place)
  • John 17:5 - And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
  • Matthew 5:17 - Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or he prophet: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
  • Romans 2:14-15 - For whenever the Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature the things required by the law, these who do not have the law are a law to themselves.  They show that the work of the law is written in their hearts, as their conscience bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse of else defend them.
  • So the Christ was sent to fulfil the law and to save those who would come to Him.
  • We need something more than a moral code....we need a change
  • Ephesians 2:1 - And although you were dead in your transgressions and sins.........
  • Isaiah 53:4-5 - But he lifted up our illnesses, he carried our pain; even though we thought he was being punished, attacked by God, and afflicted for something he had done.  He was wounded because of our rebellious deeds, crushed because of our sins; he endured punishment that made us well; because of his wounds we have been healed.
  • Isaiah 9:6 - For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall all be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Jesus, Oh What A Wonderful Child

Greetings from Brown Chapel/Avant, Shiloh and Mt. Pleasant!

Prayer: Rev. Pelton

Scripture: Galatians 5:22-23 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Subject: The Mark of a Believer

  • The indwelling of God's Holy Spirit which bares fruit in our lives as believers.  We are light in a world of darkness.
  • Only what we do for Christ will last.
  • Our spiritual fruit comes in two forms..... activity  ( things that we do) - Matthew 7 :21-23 - Not everyone that said unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven.  Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
  • The fruit of attitude is manifested outwardly.  We should feed ourselves with God's word.
  • God looks at the heart.
  • The identifying mark are God's fruit of the spirits.

Sunday School
Titus - Review and Discussion of verses 11-16 & Titus 2:1-10
  • Philippians 3:19 - Their end is destruction, their god is the belly, they exult in their shame, and they think about earthly things. (This verse is referring to Cretans who were considered liars, evil brutes and lazy gluttons.)
  • The elders of the church were to rebuke them sharply, which was sound in the faith.
  • To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure.
  • The elders must teach sound doctrine. 1 Corinthians 8:6 - But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by Him.
  • Older men should be taught to be temperate, have self-control, strong in faith.
  • Older women are taught to be reverent in their lives & not to slander others.
  • Young women are taught to love their husbands & children & to have self-control.
  • Young men are taught to have self-control.
  • The elders, in all things, are to be an example by doing good and having integrity.
Sermon
Galatians 5:19-23 - Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envying, murders, drunkenness, reveling & such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Subject: The Fruits of the Spirit - What Are You Chewing On?
  • Fast food, we all know or have heard of fast food but do you know the fruit of the Spirit?
  • The things that aren't good for us seems to taste the best.
  • The Fruit is God's gift to mankind.
  • There are two ways of living and the consequences: (1) Living according to the flesh which in disobedient to God's will; (2) Living a fruit filled life (For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be subject again to the yoke of slavery.)
  • If you are lead by the Spirit, then you are not under the law.
  • Ephesians 4:26 - "In your anger do not sin."  It's alright to become angry however don't sin against another in your anger.
  • By changing your diet from fast food to healthy food (The Fruits of the Spirit) you are gaining nutritional value and will feel much better.
  • When dealing with less than perfect people, having patience is the mother of all virtues.
  • Make you diet the right choice by feasting on the Fruits of the Spirit.
