Scripture: Mark 2:1-5 - And when he came into Capernaum again after some days, the news went about that he was in the house. And a great number had come together, so that there was no longer room for them, no, not even about the door: and he gave them teaching.  And four men came to him with one on a bed who had no power of moving.  And when they were unable to get near him because of all the people, they got the roof uncovered where he was: and when it was broken up, they let down the bed on which the man was.  And Jesus, seeing their faith, said to him, Son, you have forgiveness for your sins.

Subject: Barriers to Our Blessings

• The paralyzed man was desperate for help.
• Jesus said, "Come unto me and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28-30
• There will be trials and tribulations.
• Romans 12:3 - For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.
• Don't have a spirit of hatefulness, envy, strife, deceit.
• Where is the love?
•  We must look to God.
• We must have a spirit of mindfulness, of kindness.
• Jesus came to seek and save that which is lost. Luke 19:10
• Don't lose sight of that which God has called us to do.
• Do we have a spirit of indifference? Self-righteousness
• Read Luke 10:25-37 - The Good Samaritan
• Do we have a spirit of being critical of everything?
• Proverbs 23:7 - For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, But his heart is not with you.
• Matthew 6:15 - But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
• We must be careful to stand with Jesus' teachings. Forgiveness, love, long-suffering, kindness, self-control, etc.
• We must have JOY in our hearts! Lift up others.

Subject: The Importance of Christian Fellowship

• We all need one another.
• The Holy Spirit had come upon all who were present.
• Why is Christian fellowship so important?
• Fellowship makes us stronger. It is nourishment for our souls.  
• God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 
• Matthew 18:19 - Where two or three gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
• Fellowship provides encouragement.
• Fellowship reminds us that we are not alone.
• Jesus said that he would never leave us or forsake us. Hebrews 13:5
• Fellowship helps us to grow. 
• We need the meat of the Word as we have grown from the milk.
• We need to put on the Whole Armor of God as we face each day. Ephesians 6:13
• 1 Corinthians 14:26 - What is it then, my brothers? when you come together everyone has a holy song, or a revelation, or a tongue, or is giving the sense of it. Let everything be done for the common good.
• Fellowship with one another gives us and the world, a picture of who God is.  In other words, we must be "love" in action.
• As we fellowship in Christian love, we show the world the glory of God.

Scripture: Mark 13:32-37 - But of that day or that hour no one has knowledge, not even the angels in heaven, or the Son, but the Father.  Take care, keep watch with prayer: for you are not certain when the time will be.  It is as when a man who is in another country for a time, having gone away from his house, and given authority to his servants and to everyone his work, gives the porter an order to keep watch.  So you are to keep watch: because you are not certain when the master of the house is coming, in the evening, or in the middle of the night or at the cock's cry, or in the morning; For fear that, coming suddenly, he sees you sleeping.  And what I say to you, I say to all, Keep watch.

Subject: Waiting on the Lord

• When will everything be alright?
• When will there finally be peace on earth?
• Keep watch because that day is coming.
• Why can't we all just get along.
• Jesus said, a day is coming that our lives will be perfect.
• We must be on guard. But what does that mean?
• Are we ready at this moment?
• We need to be filled with hope of what Jesus has said.
• We know that the King of kings is coming. 
• His first coming, to be born as human & his second coming as Revelation states.
• We do not need to be found asleep. Our faith needs to always be awake.
• Are we reading the Word of Lord regularly; are in prayer often; are we striving to glorify God with our word, and deeds?
• The Word became flesh and walks among us.
• What a mighty God we serve.
• The key to stay spiritually alert is the Word of God. His Word is caffeine for the soul.
• All to Jesus, I surrender. All to Him, I freely give.
• But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.  Isaiah 40:31

For you have been my secret place, and my high tower from those who made war on me.

Subject: When Our Lives Become Overwhelming

• Beware of false prophets, fighting, arguing, mass shootings, serious illnesses, etc.
• We can become overwhelmed being involved or even thinking about these types of things.
• We are not immune to these things.
• What to do when life becomes overwhelming?
• Acknowledge that we are overwhelmed. 
• 1 Peter 5:7 - Casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you.
• Cast your burdens to the Lord and then rest. 
• Psalm 116:7 - Oh God, we rest in you.
• Psalm 100:1-2 - Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
• It's not a sin to become overwhelming because we know we can't do this by ourselves. 
• All to Jesus, I surrender. James 4:7; Matthew 16:25; Hebrews 11:6; Romans 12:2
• We must take our mines off ourselves and turn to Jesus. Also, when we think of others in similar situations and prays for them, this helps us.
• We know that God's will be done in all situations. God is always in control.
• Don't isolate yourself from others by thinking you can handle things that come up in your life. Satan wants to separate us from the Word of God by keeping us from others.
• Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy. John 10:10
• But If God be for us, who is against us? Romans 8:31

Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:1 - To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.

Subject: God's Timing

• God's timing comes in different avenues.
• We should study to show ourselves approved.
• We should pray always to have a right relationship with God.
• God has a timetable for everything.
• Everything that happens, happens when God allows it.
• Galatians 4:4 - But when the fulness of the time came, Go sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law.
• God doesn't always give us the details.
• Ecclesiastes 3:11 - He has made everything beautiful in its time.
• Acts 1:7 - And he said unto them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons, which the Father has set within his own authority.
• Humans are impatient but God is not. 
• 2 Peter 3:8 - But forget not this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
• God answers our prayers in His time. We must be patient.
• Our waiting is getting us ready to God's plan for us.
• Fear not, fret not, forget not, and faint not.
• Our faith defeats our fear.
• Mark 5:36 - Be not afraid, only believe.
• Fret not - means don't worry about a thing. Evil doers will soon be cut off and die away.
• Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
• 1 Peter 5:6 - Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.
• Never for God's gift to us. His Son, Jesus.
• And let us not be weary in welldoing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men especially unto them who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:9-10

Subject: What is Communion

• Communion is the symbolic sharing of the elements of the body of Christ.
• Jesus' last supper
• Jesus uses this last supper as a symbolic way to show his coming death and resurrection.
• Matthew 26 (read this chapter)
• The purpose of Communion: A proclamation of Jesus Christ - the Good New that Jesus would die for our sins but also be resurrected from the dead. This message is from God. (2) This is a way for our focus is on Jesus.  1 Corinthians 10:17 - Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body for we all partake of the one bread.
• John 17:20-22 - 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
• The purpose of Communion: It is a time when we give thanks to Jesus Christ.
• The Purpose of Communion: We set aside a time for us to take an inward look at our own lives.

Scripture: Habakkuk 1:2-4 - O Lord, how long shall I cry, and you will not hear! even cry out unto you of violence, and you will not save!  Why do you show me iniquity and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.  Therefore, the law is slacked, and judgment does never go forth: for the wicked does compass about the righteous; therefore, wrong judgment is perverted.

Subject: Lord, How Long?!

• Violence was everywhere and the laws of the land were not being enforced.
• We, too, seem to be living in that type of era. 
• 2 Timothy 3:1-5 - Know this, that in the last days difficult times will come.  For people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, savage, opposed to what is good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, loving pleasure rather than loving God.  They will maintain the outward appearance of religion but will have repudiated its power. So avoid people like these.
• Can we handle the truth?
• God's ways are not our ways.
• God never explains Himself but he does have a plan for us.
• We will understand it better by and by.
• The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life. Romans 6:23

Scripture: Matthew 15:21-28 -   21 Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.”23 But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us.”24 But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”25 Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”26 But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”27 And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”28 Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

Subject: A Faith Filled Mother

• Mothers are very often wise and shared their wisdom with their children.
• Mothers are the foundation of the home when raising the children.
• Mary, Sarah, Hanna, Rachael, etc. all, powerful mothers.
• Lessons from Matthew 15: (1) We see a mother's love for her child. The bible says we should seek Jesus while He may be found.  Isaiah 55:6
• This mother asked for mercy from Jesus. She saw that Jesus was the Messiah. 
• We see that love that is a very powerful weapon.
• Love is at the center of our new life in Jesus Christ. The love of Christ paved the way for our salvation.
• For God so loved the world that He gave is only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.   John 3:16
• (2) This mother was persistent.
• We must be persistent in having an intimate relationship with God through Jesus.
•  (3) This mother had humility. She falls in the face of Jesus.
• This mother saw that even the crumbs from Jesus can do what no other power can do.
• We must humble ourselves; surrender our pride.
• All to Jesus we surrender.
• (4) This mother had faith that Jesus could save her child. Jesus answered her request to save the child. Her faith in Jesus caused His compassion to her.
• Hebrews 4:16 - Therefore let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and find grace whenever we need help.

Scripture: John 20:1-10 - The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.

Subject: The Reality of the Resurrection is Important: Because He Lives

• Jesus showed us who he is.
• Jesus paid for the sins that we have committed.
• God saw that Jesus had paid and God was satisfied.
• Resurrection was the receipt that all had been paid in full.
• The resurrection is just as powerful today as it was in the past.
• The resurrection means that we can face today with confident.
• We can face tomorrow with faith. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things no seen. Hebrews 11:1
• We can face eternity with peace. God's peace surpasses all understanding. Philippians 4:7
• We Christians are only passing through to that eternal home.
• Jesus said, "I am the truth, the way, and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me." John 16:6
• John 14:27 - "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; I do not give it to you as the world does. Do not let your hearts be troubled or lacking in courage.

What determines if Easter is in March or April? The simple answer is that the first Sunday after the full moon that occurs on or after the spring equinox. If the full moon falls on a Sunday then Easter is the Next Sunday.

Scripture: John 4:1-15 - Jesus Talks With a Samaritan Woman

4 Now Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that he was gaining and baptizing more disciples than John— 2 although in fact it was not Jesus who baptized, but his disciples. 3 So he left Judea and went back once more to Galilee.4 Now he had to go through Samaria. 5 So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon.7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” 8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.[a])10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”

Subject: Do You Know the Gift of God?! 

• There are so many types of water: salt water, hard water, muddy water, mineral water, spring water, etc.
• Jesus is talking about 'living water.'
• This water is available to all & it's free.
• You can't find it in the grocery store. Can't draw it from a well.
• This water comes from God Himself.
• All we have to do is to repent of our sins and allow Jesus to come into our hearts. Our lives will be changed forever.
• Jesus, a Jew, spoke to a Samaritan woman & asked for a drink of water. Jews & Samaritans didn't get along but Jesus came to offer life, eternal life.
• We know that Jesus is God in the flesh. Emanuel - God with us.
• Psalm 42:1 - As a deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God!
• Jeremiah 2:13 - For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
• Do we even understand the gift that God is offering us; the living waters; eternal life?!
• God's love will always care us through.
• I am the way, the truth & the life. No one comes to the Father but by me.  John 14:6

Scripture: Psalm 121:1-4 - I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.  My help comes from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.  He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keeps thee will not slumber.  Behold, he that keeps Israel shall neither slumber not sleep.

Subject: If I Had Just Looked Up

• If we look up it will keep our hearts lifted, our heads from looking down.
• Looking up will help us and do not be afraid.
• If you are depressed or down hearted or troubled......look up; look to where our help comes from.
• God is in control.
• I will lift my eyes unto the hills is statement of fact.
• Our help comes from the Lord.
• God is the author and the finisher of our faith.
• What happened in the hills? For David, he hid in the hills; from cave to cave; or when he looked up, he saw his deliverer.
• If we only look up!

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, good will toward men.

Subject: Jesus Christ, the Son of God, The Real Joy of the World

• Joy - a glad feeling.
• How do we fine joy? 
• There is a difference between joy and happiness. Happiness is more of a material thing such as money, clothes, cars, etc.  But joy is not dependent on material things, it comes from Jesus. The joy of the Lord is our strength. 
• There is joy in knowing Jesus.
• Joy in Jesus #1 Jesus' birth was joy. Unto us a savior is born. #2 Joy in Jesus - He brought joy into the people by healing the lame, brought sight to the blind, etc. #3 Joy in Jesus - When Jesus died & paid for our sins, He rose with all power John 11:25-26 - I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live even if he dies, and the one who lives and believes in me will never die., & #4 Joy in Jesus - Jesus ascended into heaven, He went to prepare a place for us.

Scripture: Luke 7:1-10 -  When Jesus had finished saying all this to the people who were listening, he entered Capernaum. 2 There a centurion’s servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die. 3 The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. 4 When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, “This man deserves to have you do this, 5 because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.” 6 So Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. 7 That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. 8 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. Subject: Soldier's Story

• This Roman soldier had the respect of all around him. He was a man among men.
• He was a man of compassion for the people who he lauded over.
•  A servant had no rights, was at his master's mercy. But his master was compassionate.
• People don't care how much you know until they see how much you care.
• The Roman soldier was humble and compassionate. Even though he was trained to kill and do battle.
• This soldier believed in Jesus and the Word of God.
• There is power in the name of Jesus and there is power in the Word.
• God spoke....."Let there be!"  Genesis 1:3
• Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17
• Think about this.....The Word (Jesus) only had to say the Word in order for the servant to be healed.
• We must not only have faith but we must act on that faith.
• We has Christians must put our own faith into action.
• Faith is a choice. 
• As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15
• If we trust and never doubt, He will surely bring us out!

Subject: The Importance of Christian Fellowship

• Fellowship in Christian beliefs
• The awesome power of the Holy Spirit had already manifested at the day of Pentecost.
• Fellowship is important in the Christian faith.
• We are to show the aspects of God through fellowship.
• We have been given specific talents and must share them as we travel this Christian journey.
• Manifest and exemplify the glory of God through fellowship.
• We must not lose heart; we must pray and fellowship with one another to renew our strength. 
• It is God who makes us strong.
• Hebrews 10:23-25 -  23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
• Fellowship helps us to grow, to teach others to learn how to walk in God's footsteps.
• Romans 8: 35-39 -Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written, “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”[a]37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Scripture: Acts 16:19-26 - 19 But when her owners saw that their hope of gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers. 20 And when they had brought them to the magistrates, they said, “These men are Jews, and they are disturbing our city. 21 They advocate customs that are not lawful for us as Romans to accept or practice.” 22 The crowd joined in attacking them, and the magistrates tore the garments off them and gave orders to beat them with rods. 23 And when they had inflicted many blows upon them, they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep them safely. 24 Having received this order, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks. 25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, 26 and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone's bonds were unfastened.

Subject: Jailhouse Rock

• A girl had an evil spirit which gave her a way to tell fortunes. She continuously followed Paul and Silas around saying the following:
• These men are the servants of the most high God who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation. Acts 16:17
• Even Satan knew who Jesus was.
• Mark 5:6 - When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. ... When Jesus was still some distance away, the man saw him, ran to meet him,
• Don't you know that the devil is about his business and we as Christians should be about ours.
• Paul became vexed with the girl and cast out the demon. Her master was very angry about this and dragged Paul & Silas to the authorities. They were then beaten and jailed.
• But God sent an earthquake and freed them.
• “Psalm 46 says God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 
• The reality is that there will be difficult times, but God promises to be our refuge. When buildings crumbling and our world is shaken. God has not failed us.

Scripture: Psalm 33:20 - We wait for the Lord; he is our deliverer and shield.

Subject: Our Waiting Brings Help From Our God

• Lord help us to hold out!
• We must wait for the Lord.
• While waiting: (1) Waiting brings us our strength from God. Joshua 1:9 says "Be strong and of a good courage."; (2) Waiting brings us peace. Psalm 46:10 says "Be still and know that I am God."  And from John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you.; (3) Waiting brings help from God when we seem to be unstable. Find time to pray to God. We need to become settled in our faith; & (4) Waiting brings our submission to all Mighty God. Luke 22:42 says "Nevertheless, not my will but thine will be done." The song says, All to Jesus I surrender, all to him I freely give. 
• Our waiting brings help from our God!

Scripture: Luke 2:10-11 - And the angel said unto them, "Rear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."

Subject: The Meaning of Advent

• Coming and arrival - the coming a arrival of Jesus Christ
• This is good news.
• No matter our situation here and now, Jesus is the good news.
• Jesus was born in Roman times which was not favorable to Christianity.
• Jesus came into this world to pay a debt - our sins
• Jesus came into a world of darkness to bring light.
• Jesus came as a prophet - for the kingdom of God is near. Jesus calls us to make a decision to come out of darkness.  The disciples saw what Jesus could and did do. They had "on the job" training. Only after Jesus was raised from the dead did the disciples see the whole of Jesus' message.
• Jesus came as priest - one that acts as a mediator between man and God. He was the divine priest. We no longer have to sacrifice animals.  Jesus will take on all your burdens and give you rest.
• Jesus is our King - His kingdom is not of this world.
