 Greetings from Brown Chapel/Avant,

Shiloh and Mt. Pleasant Baptist

Prayer: Rev. I. Pelton

Scripture: Proverbs 16:1-7

Text: Nine Qualities of a Godly Leader - Conclusion

  • A godly leader is humble. From Proverbs 16:18 - Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
  • A godly leader is sensible and kind. Philippians 2:3 - Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.
  • A godly leader is slow to anger. Proverbs 15:1 - A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Ecclesiastes 7:9 - Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the heart of fools.

Women's Day Conference

The Women's Day Conference got off to a wonderful start with a breakfast meet & greet where ladies received their schedules for the day, a take away gift bag and their name tags.
Introduction and Welcome
On behalf of Pastor & Mrs. Baggett and the Brown Chapel Family, the ladies were welcomed to the Women's Day Conference, in hopes that they would walk away with full spirits, light hearts and bolstered minds to continue God's Word in their lives.

At 9:00 AM - Mrs. Tonya Lewis spoke about the tools in her toolbox. Some points to take away:
  • Discernment ( 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22) Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.  Abstain from all appearance of evil.
  • Prayer - Align yourself in the will of God.
  • Hebrews 12:14 - Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.
  • Ecclesiastes 3:4 - There's a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.
  • Psalm 37:4 - Delight yourself also in the Lord; and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
  • Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.

At 10:00 AM - Ms. Rhonda Lawton spoke about the tools in her toolbox. Some points to take away:
From Beth Moore's Mantra, Rhonda spoke about God is who He says He is with references from:
  •  Proverbs 30:5 - "Every Word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.
  • John 4:24 - God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.
  • 1 Corinthians 4:20 - For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.
God can do what He says He can do with references from:
  •  Luke 1:37 - Fro nothing will be impossible with God.
  • 2 Corinthians 9:8 - And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work.
  • Mark 14:36 - God's will be done.
  • Ephesians 3:20 - Now to Him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us.
I am who God says I am with references from:
  • John 1:12 - Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave right to become children of God.
  • John 15:5 - I am the vine; you are the branches.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me with references from:
  • Ephesians 6:10 - Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His might power.
  • Galatians 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
  • Philippians 4:11 - I am content with whatever circumstances.
God's Word is alive and active in me with references from:
  • 1 Peter 1:23 - For you have been born again, not of perishable see, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring Word of God.
  • Luke 8:11 - The see is the Word of God.
  • John 1:1 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
  • Psalm 119:105 - Your Word is a lamp unto my feet, a light onto my path.
  • Isaiah 40:8 - The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of our God endures forever.
  • Matthew 24:35 - Heaven and earth will pass away, but My Words will never pass away.
  • John 1:14 - The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.
At 11:00 AM - Minister Dorothy Malone spoke about the tools in her toolbox. Some points to take away:
  • First know that we all have a sin nature. This happened before "we" were born, as result of what Adam and Eve did in the Garden of Eden.
  • The Law cannot save us but God's grace can and does.
  • Salvation is not a feeling!!
  • Matthew 6:33 - But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
  • Colossians 2:6-7 - So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
  • We should develop deep roots in the Word with the help of the Holy Spirit.
  • The Holy Spirit is in each and every one of us!!!
  • God allowed His Son to die for our sins and raised Him with all power to show us His power, His grace and His love for us.
  • We are saints, highly exalted.
  • Colossians 3:1-6 - Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.  When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.  Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.  Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.

12 Noon - Lunch was served; announcements made and then the Benediction.

Three Characteristics of God
  • God is Omnipresent meaning He is everywhere.
  1. Psalm 139:7-10 - Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou are there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
  2. James 5:9 - Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge stands before the door.
  3. Matthew 28:19-20 - Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
  4. Philippians 4:5 - Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
  5. Colossians 1:17 - And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.
  6. Amos 9:1-4 - I saw the Lord standing upon the alter: and He said, Smite the lintel of the door, that the posts my shake: and cut them in the head, all of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: he that flees of them shall not flee away, and he that escapes of them shall not be delivered. Though they dig into hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down: And though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out thence; and though they be hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, thence will I command the serpent, and he shall bite them: And though they go into captivity before their enemies, thence will I command the sword, and it shall slay them: and I will set mine eyes upon them for evil, and not for good.
  • God is Omnipotent meaning He is all powerful.
  1. Romans 4:17 - As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations. He is our father in the sight o God, in whom he believed - the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.
  2. Hebrews 11:3 - By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
  3. Ephesians 3:20 - Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.
  4. Jeremiah 32:17 - "Ah, Sovereign Lord, You have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.
  • God is Omniscient meaning all knowing.
  1. Genesis 1:1 - In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
  2. Genesis 1:14 - And God said, "Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years.
  3. Exodus 3:13-14 - Moses said to God, "Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them,' The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' Then what shall I tell them?" God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.'"
  4. John 8:57-58 - "You are not yet fifty years old," they said to him, "and you have seen Abraham!"  "Very truly I tell you," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!"
  5. Psalm 90:2 - Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
  6. Revelation 1:8 - I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty."
  • God's Timing.
  1. 2 Peter 3:8 - But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
  2. Isaiah 46:10 - I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, 'My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.'
  • God and Man.
  1. Jeremiah 1:5 - "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."
  2. Romans 8:29-30 - For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.  And hose He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified.
  3. Isaiah 9:6 - For to use a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Sermon
Mark 6:30-34 - The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to Him all they had done and taught. Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, He said to them, "Come with Me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest."  So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place. But many who saw them leaving recognized them and ran on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them.  When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, He had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So He began teaching them many things.

Subject: Our God Who Cares
  • Many have a faulty impression of God.
  • Our God is a holy God.
  • He is untouched by our wickedness.
  • God is in control of everything.
  • God is Omnipresent, Omnipotent and Omniscient.
  • God became flesh through Jesus to allow Himself to understand what the fleshly man suffered.
  • God cares for His laboring servants - Mark 6:30
  • God expects us to rest.
  • God cares about the lost sheep.
  • God is compassionate towards us.

June 26, 2016

On Sunday May 15th, I visited our sister church, Avant, for church service.
The message came from Matthew 1:18-20 - v18 Now this is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant by the Holy Spirit. v19 Joseph, her fiance`, being a just man, decided to break the engagement quietly, so as not to disgrace her publicly.  v20 As he considered this, he fell asleep, and an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. "Joseph, son of David," the angel said, "do not be afraid to go ahead with your marriage to Mary. For the child within her has been conceived by the Holy Spirit."
Subject: "God Chose a Father For His Son"
A Father's Day Sermon
  • Joseph was the earthly father to Jesus
  • The father should be present in a child's life
  • Joseph was a godly man and God's choice
  • Joseph was a loving man, not vengeful but mindful. He had no resentment towards Jesus
  • Joseph taught Jesus the trade of carpentry
  • Joseph was devout and obeyed God in all things
  • Joseph was faithful to God when he fled with Mary and Jesus; faithful in his spirit filled duty going to the various feasts, festivals, & sermons
  • Joseph was wise and discerning

Acts 28:1-31; Romans 1:1-32
  • Paul on the Island of Malta, was bitten by a poisonous snake the the inhabitants thought he would die because they thought he was a murderer but Paul slung off the snake and the people were soon changed their minds.
  • Paul Arrives at Rome and was permitted to have his own private lodgings although he was guarded by a soldier.
  • Paul preaches  at Rome but the most wanted to argue with him, so Paul told them to go (read verses 26 and 27)
  • Paul said that the salvation he was preaching about from God, was also available for the Gentiles.
  • In Romans chapter 1, Paul summarizes the Good News about Jesus Christ, who came as a human by natural descent, was part of the Jewish royal line through David, died and was raised from the dead and opened the door for God's grace and kindness to be poured out onto us. (From Life Application Study Bible)
Sermon
John 4:4-9 - v4 He had to go through Samaria on the way. v5 Eventually he came to the Samaritan village of Sychar, near the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. v6 Jacob's well was there; and Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime. v7 Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, "Please give me a drink." v8 He was alone at the time because his disciples had gone into the village to buy some food. v9 The woman was surprised, for Jews refuse to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said to Jesus, "You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?"
Subject: "The Living Water"

  • Dehydration is a detriment, draining and can kill but water is a life saver.
  • Are we dried up Christians?
  • Jesus offers living water
  • Living water is never deadly to the soul.
There are two types of water
A. Water on earth offers
  •  temporary relief for the body
  • Naturally dug up
  • will thirst again
  • a substitute that will not satisfy for very long
B. Eternal Water (Life)
  • Supernatural
  • Heaven sent
  • For the soul
  • Offers eternal life
  • One will never thirst again
Consumption! Did the woman drink of the living water that Jesus offered? Yes! She left her bucket, went back to her village to tell about her experience and the villagers believed.

Easter

Through His death, burial & resurrection, Jesus paid the penalty for sin. He purchased eternal life for all who believe Him!

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and life. He who believes in me will live, even though he died; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. (Romans 1:4-5)

Happy Easter everyone!
