Conference Call!

Brown Chapel & Avant Church Families and our neighboring church family, Shiloh Baptist, held our first community-wide conference call.

Psalms 42:5 - Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait of God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention.
Subject: How Do We Beat The Blues?

We are dealing with the Covid-19 virus, unemployment, life's uncertainties but we, as Christians, have hope.

Five Points

  1. We should be focused on things that are positive. From Philippians 4:8 - Whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, it something is excellent or praiseworthy, think on those things.
  2. Look for the purpose of what God wants from us. In other words, His will be done. (a) Our trials and tribulations are going to happen throughout our lives. They should strengthen us.
  3. Utilize God's promises for us.  Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding.  Acknowledge Him all your ways, and He will direct your paths.
  4. Take time to encourage others.
  5. Sing praises to our God! Give God the praise. Psalms 150:1 Praise ye the Lord, Praise God in His sanctuary: praise Him in the firmament of His power.  Romans 15:11 - And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud Him, all ye people. (a) Obedience is better than sacrifice.

What is Jesus Doing in Heaven?

  • The ascension of Jesus serves as His total right of His enthronement. It fulfills the offer that Satan made to Jesus in the wilderness. (Luke 4:5-7 - Then the devil led Him up to a high place and showed Him in a flash all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to Him, "To You I will grant this whole realm and the glory that goes along with it, for it has been relinquished to me, and I can give it to anyone I wish.  So then, if You will worship me, all this will be yours.")
  • Jesus is acting on our behave as our mediator. Hebrews 7:24-25
  • Jesus hears our prayers. 2 Corinthians 12:8-9
  • Jesus gives grace to all believers. Ephesians 4:7
  • Jesus is strengthening and protecting us. 2 Thessalonians 3:3; Philippians 4:13

Sermon
Matthew 7:21-23 - Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord', will enter into the kingdom of heaven - only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. On that day, many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, didn't we prophesy in your name, and in your name cast out demons and do many powerful deeds?' Then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you, Go away from me, you lawbreakers!'
Subject: Everybody Talking About Heaven Ain't Going In!
  • But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.......  Matthew 5:44-46
  • But when you do alms, let not your left hand know what your right had does. Matthew 6:3
  • Many are called but few are chosen.  Matthew 22:14
  • Beware for false teachers creeping in with smiles on their faces, teaching subtle differences in the Word, telling partial truths.
  • But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money boastful, proud, abusive....... 2 Timothy 3:1
  • All of us will have to give an account of ourselves to God...For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive his due for the things done in the body, whether good or bad.  Romans 1:12
  • Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. Whatever a man sows, he will reap in return. Galatians 6:7
  • And you will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end... Matthew 24:6

  • Remember prayer is communicating with God through Jesus Christ.
  • God is to be revered; He is on high and will come down one day; God is to be obeyed; His Word is to be partaken of daily; He forgives us and others; If we allow it, we are to keep our thoughts heavenward; and we know that all power is in God's hands.

Sermon
Romans 8:35-36 - v35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? v36 As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."

Subject:  Nothing Can Separate Us From God!
  • For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.  Ephesians 6:12
  • Does serving God really matter?   YES!!!
  • "How long, Lord," we sometimes ask. But God's love makes up the differences of our doubts.
  • God's love never fails.
  • Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
  • With your hand you drove out the nations and planted our ancestors; you crushed the peoples and made our ancestors flourish.  Psalm 44:2
  • We must be grounded and rooted in the Lord.
  • Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord Almighty.  Zechariah 4:6
  • Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. Romans 8:37
  • Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.  Ephesians 3:20-21
