May 10, 2020 - Happy Mother's Day Conference Call

Happy Mother's Day from Brown Chapel/Avant; Shiloh Baptist and Mt. Pleasant Baptist

Prayer by Pastor Baggett
Proverbs 31:28 - Her children rise up and call her blessed, her husband also praises her:
Subject: Qualities of a Godly Mother

Mother is always concerned about the well-being of her family.
Five qualities of a godly mother:

  1. Mother is loyal, faithful, just & righteous as God are all these things through Jesus Christ.
  2. Mother is one who listens to her children. She listens with compassion as God listens and hears us through Jesus Christ.  1 John 5:14 - This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
  3. Mother is a lifter up of her child's spirit. Mom is with you through thick and thin as God is with us through Jesus Christ.  We should edify others.  Romans 14:19 - Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.
  4. Mother is one that laughs (rejoices) with her children as God rejoiced as He gave His only Son to the world.  We are to rejoice always from 1 Thessalonians 5:16
  5. Mother is one that loves as we all know God is Love.  John 15:13 - Greater love has no man that this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

May 12, 2019 - Mother's Day

Sunday School
Titus 1:1-7
Paul commissioned Titus to show how the good news of Jesus and the power of the Spirit can transform Cretan people from within.
  • Paul has left Titus in Crete to set in order what remains and appoint elders in every city.
  • Titus was an early Christian missionary and church leader.
  • God's elect are "us" - Jews & Gentiles (Christians)
  • We operate under sound doctrine; the truth
  • God didn't just throw a plan together on the spur of the moment. It was planned out before the beginning of time.
  • Eternal life in v2 is explained in 1 John 2:17 - And the world is passing away with all its desires, but the person who does the will of God remains forever.
  • Appointed season in v3 is explained in Acts 1:7 - He told them, "You are not permitted to know the time or periods that the Father has set by His own authority.
  • God our Savior in v3 is explained in 1 Timothy 1:1 - From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope ...
  • An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a man whose children believe and  are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. This means that the man should not be self-willed seeking gratification for his own personal gains regardless of others; he should not be easily provoked or become hasty with his words; he should not be a drunkard or a brawler.

Sermon
Exodus 1:22; 2:9 - The Pharaoh commanded all his people, 'All sons that are born you must throw into the river, but all daughters you may let live." Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Take this child and nurse him for me, and I will pay your wages." So the woman took the child and nursed him.
Topic: The Big Payback
  • Moses was a Hebrew child
  • Pharaoh commanded all males to be thrown into the Nile river
  • Pharaoh wanted to wipe out the Hebrew race as Satan wanted to eradicate the line of Jesus.
  • But "love" foiled Pharaoh's plan
  • The same Nile that was to kill Moses delivered him.
  • Pharaoh meant to do evil but God turned in into good
  • Moses had a spiritual foundation taught to him by his mother.
  • I recall your sincere faith that was alive first in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice, and I am sure is in you. Because of this I remind you to rekindle God's gift that you possess through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a Spirit of fear but of power and love and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:5-7

The Whole Armor of God - Part 4
Review of precious lessons

  • Shod your feet - The Gospel of Peace - we must be ready to preach the Word in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 2 Timothy 4:2
  • Shodding your feet has two purposes: to defend ourselves against the flaming arrows of the evil one. Ephesians 6:16 - in all circumstances take up the shield of faith , with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one. We must have confidence of or position in Christ and we must stand firm in the truth of God's Word.
  • 1 John 5:14 - And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. We must understand grace without abusing it.
  • Romans 6:1-6 - What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into Hid death. We were buried therefore with Him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too, might walk in newness of life. For we have been united with Him in a death like His, we shall certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like His.  We know that our old self was crucified with Him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.

Sermon
Psalm 103:1-2 - Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits.
Subject: The Purpose of Praise
  • Praise means to acknowledge; to bow down in the presence of an awesome God.
  • God is worthy to be praised
  • Praise is to honor God; all the glory and honor belong to God.
  • We gather to worship God.
  • We should have a personal relationship with Jesus.
  • God is the one who woke us up this morning.
  • In Christ, we live.
  • God is the author and finisher of our faith.
  • Benefits are from God for us.
  • There's a whole lot of knowledge but God gives us wisdom.
  • Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don't think of yourself more highly than you ought to think.  Romans 12:3
  • I have a reasonable portion of my health and strength.

1 Corinthians 2

Paul Preaches Wisdom

  • Paul was considered a well educated man but when he spoke or wrote letters to the churches he used language that everyone could understand.
  • Paul was disheartened about the unified church of Corinth.
  • He said that the only the church could live a wise life was by having the right perspective and that without the light of God's Spirit, there is darkness.
  • True wisdom is cross-centered. True wisdom is found in the word of the cross.
  • 1 Corinthians 2:6-9 - Yet when I am among mature Christians, I do speak with words of wisdom, but not the kind of wisdom that belongs to this world, and not the kind that appeals to the rulers of this world, who are being brought to nothing.  No, the wisdom we speak of is the secret wisdom of God, which was hidden in former times, though He made it for our benefit before the world began. But the rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would never have crucified one glorious Lord.  This is what the Scriptures mean when they say, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him."  Isaiah 64:4
  • Mature Christians are those believers who recognize and embrace God's wisdom in the cross.
  • The wisdom of God is eternal.
  • The wisdom of God is beneficial to us because God has our good in mind as He is our sovereignty.
  • The wisdom of God is supernatural.
  • True wisdom is Spirit directed, meaning the Holy Spirit, our comforter, reveals deep things to us Christians.
  • The Holy Spirit, the third member of the Trinity, knows what God has in store for us.
  • Ephesians 1:14 - The Spirit is God's guarantee that He will give us everything He promised long ago.
  • The unbeliever "cannot" understand God's way, the Christian way.
  • Isaiah 40:13 - "For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he  will instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ."
Sermon
Proverbs 31:10-15;25-28 - v10 Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is worth more than precious rubies.  v11 Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life.  v12 She will not hinder him but help him all her life.  v13 She finds wool and flax and busily spins it.  v14 She is like a merchant's ship; she brings her good from afar.  v15 She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household and plan the day's work for her servant girls.  v25 She is clothed with strength and dignity and she laughs with no fear of the future.  v26 When she speaks, her words are wise and kindness is the rule when she gives instructions.  v27 She carefully watches all that goes on in her household and does not have to bear the consequences of laziness.  v28 Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her.

Subject: The Attributes of a Godly Woman
Women of great Attributes (to name a few): Mary, mother of Jesus; Hannah, Ruth, Naomi
  • Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.   Matthew 6:33
  • Be committed to the cause of Christ.
  • Can God trust you with His assignment?
  • A great attribute is to be a fervent prayer warrior.
  • Children are a gift from the Lord. Psalm 127:3-5
  • We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work.  John 9:4
  • Be a living example of Jesus.
