Sunday School
Philemon 1:1-25 and Hebrews 1:1-14

  • Paul, a Godly man, greets Philemon tenderly and with care.
  • Paul offers to make up any loss Philemon may have sustained in the absence of Onesimus.
  • Paul pulled the rug out from under Philemon's anger towards Onesimus by reminding Philemon that Paul had forgiven Philemon as God forgave us.
  • Onesimus means useful. Paul played on this by stating that Onesimus was useless at one time before he accepted Christ.
  • 1 John 1:19 - If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

  • Jesus Christ is God's Son.
  • Christ is greater than the angels.
  • Psalms 103:20 - Bless the Lord, you His angels, Mighty in strength, who perform His word, obeying the voice of His word1
  • Hebrews 1:7 - And of the angels He says, "Who makes His angels winds, and His ministers a flame of fire."
  • "On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand."

Sermon
Acts 16:25 - About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
Subject: "Miracles at Midnight"

  • At midnight Paul and Silas prayed and a great earthquake shook the land.
  • Being close to God is all you need.
  • In the center of God's will is the safest place for us Christians.
  • God has a plan and a purpose for us.
  • Paul and Silas were met with opposition but their foundation was with God.
  • Try the spirit by the spirit.
  • Ephesians 6:12 - For our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
  • Our God is with us right now!
  • If you were arrested as being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?
  • Psalm 30:5  "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning."
  • Midnight is when you find yourself in a situation you have no control over.
  • God does His best work when we think it's too late.
  • God can do what no other power can do.
  • God showed for Daniel, David, Joseph, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and many other. Why don't you think He'll show up for you?
  • If it had not been for the Lord on my side, tell me where would I be?
  • Be a witness for Christ.
  • Paul and Silas spoke to the jailer and prayed for him and with him. His life was changed and his entire family.
  • Will we give God praise or will we whine and complain?
