May 26, 2019 - Memorial Day Celebration

Sunday School
Titus Review of 1:1-7 & Discussion of verses 8-10 - Titus was left in Crete to supervise, teach and advise the Christians as they walked in the godly way.

  • God does not lie.
  • God's truth for His elect began before the beginning of time.
  • 2 Timothy 1:9-10 - He is the one who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not based on our works but on His own purpose and grace, granted to us in Christ Jesus before time began, but now made visible through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus. He has broken the power of death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel!
  • There is no faith apart from the knowledge of the truth.
  • An overseer of God's household should be blameless, faithful to his wife, good to their children, patient, upright, holy and disciplined.
  • Realizing that we are of the flesh, these qualifications are for persons who have turned their lives around because of the Word of God and follow Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the Lord with all thy heart; and lean not unto thy own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path.
  • There are many rebellious people, full of meaningless talk and deception, especially those of the circumcision group (Jews who thought they were the only ones who could interpret scripture).

Sermon
Daniel 5:1-6 - King Belshazzar prepared a great banquet for a thousand of his nobles, and he was drinking wine in front of them all.  While under the influence of the wine, Belshazzar issued an order to bring in the gold and silver vessels - the ones that Nebuchadnezzar his father had confiscated from the temple in Jerusalem - so that the king and his nobles, together with his wives and his concubines, could drink from them.  So they brought the gold and silver vessels that had been confiscated from the temple, the house of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his nobles, together with his wives and concubines, drank from them.  As they drank wine, they praised the gods of gold and sliver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone.  At that very moment the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the royal palace wall, opposite the lampstand.  The king was watching the back of the hand that was writing.  Then all the color drained from the king's face and he became alarmed. The joints of his hips gave way, and his knees began knocking together.

Subject: The Writing Is On The Wall
Sub-Topic: Don't Forget To Remember

  • Jesus paid it all.
  • There is a battle going on today.
  • In Chapter 5, the whole kingdom was crumbling but the king was throwing a party.
  • Belshazzar forgot what his father, Nebuchadnezzar, believed about God.
  • He forgot who God is.
  • Belshazzar lost all sense of who God is; lost hold on reality; lost restraint and respect.
  • We need to be humble and pray.
  • Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18
  • Danger is always lurking nearby.
  • There is always a price to pay if you are not walking in the line of godliness.
  • There's nothing new under the sun.
  • We need to hold onto God's unchanging hand.

If you're in the area, come out and visit our cemetery.
Started in 2018, each headstone or marked area for a loved one has a bouquet of flowers & each veteran is honored with an American flag. This new tradition is a gift from Brown Chapel Church Family & will continue from year to year.
New this year, is a banner to honor the Masons, Heroines and Eastern Stars whose headstone are noted or the elders of the church or in the process of listing the names in our records.
If you visit us and want your loved one listed, please contact a church member for more information.
