- Eternal life in v2 is explained in 1 John 2:17 - And the world is passing away with all its desires, but the person who does the will of God remains forever.

- God our Savior in v3 is explained in 1 Timothy 1:1 - From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope ...
- An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. This means that the man should not be self-willed seeking gratification for his own personal gains regardless of others; he should not be easily provoked or become hasty with his words; he should not be a drunkard or a brawler.

- I recall your sincere faith that was alive first in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice, and I am sure is in you. Because of this I remind you to rekindle God's gift that you possess through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a Spirit of fear but of power and love and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:5-7
