February 2, 2025 - Sermon & Winter Stew Recipe

Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: Romans 8:35-39 - Who will come between us and the love of Christ? Will trouble, or pain, or cruel acts, or the need of food or of clothing, or danger, or the sword?  As it is said in the holy Writings, Because of you we are put to death every day; we are like sheep ready for destruction.  But we are able to overcome all these things and more through his love.  For I am certain that not death, or life, or angels, or rulers, or things present, or things to come, or powers, or things on high, or things under the earth, or anything which is made, will be able to come between us and the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Subject: Holding Onto God's Unchanging Hand - Stay with the Lord?

  • We live by faith and not by sight.
  • We know that trouble won't last always.
  • Romans 8:28 - And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
  • We must stay with the Lord
  • We must align ourselves with likeminded people of Christ.
  • God's amazing grace and mercy and love is always available to us. No matter what you or I may go through.
  • Who or what can separate us from the love of Christ?
  • Romans 8:38-39 - For I am certain, that neither death, not life, nor angel, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
  • Hebrews 13:5 - Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."
  • As Christians we will suffer persecution, but we know that Jesus our security, our hope.
  • We belong to God.
  • Romans 5:8 - But God has made clear his love to us, in that, when we were still sinners, Christ gave his life for us.
  • Psalm 37:9 - For those who are evil will be destroyed but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.

Winter Stew Recipe
Ingredients:
Ground meat
Pork roast (left over) Note: You can substitute beef roast or leave either off altogether.
2 onions diced
2 bell peppers diced
3 cloves of garlic diced
Dice 5 or 6 potatoes
2 cans of sliced carrots drained
2 cans of sweet corn drained
2 cans English peas drained
2 cans black-eyed peas drained and rinsed
1 can black beans drained and rinsed
3 bay leaves
3 cans tomato sauce
3 cans diced tomatoes
1 can tomato paste
1 cup catsup
Salt & pepper

  • Brown ground meat in large skillet, drain and set aside
  • Chop left over pork roast into small pieces
  • In a large cooking pot add 1 cup of water, ground meat & chopped pork roast. Allow to boil for 15 minutes. Reduce to medium heat and add diced potatoes and all cans of tomatoes.
  • Allow to heat for another 15 to 20 minutes.  Add all other ingredients next and reduce to a simmer for 3 1/2 to 4 hours.
  • Remove from heat and set on a counter over night to steep (steeping allows the flavors to marinate together).
  • The next day remove bay leaves and simmer until heated. Serve with a hearty bread or cornbread or crackers.
This stew can be stored in the refrigerator for several days or frozen for another time.
Enjoy!

January 25-26, 2025

Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

January 25, 2025 - Winter Stew & Fellowship Saturday

We appreciate everyone who joined us. The fellowship was spirit filled and uplifting.

Prayer: Minister Dorothy M.

Scripture: Philippians 2:5 - Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus

Subject: How to Have the Mind of Christ
  • We must guard our minds against the world.
  • Satan is always trying to sell us "sin"
  • But we have the Holy Spirit. He reminds us of scripture.
  • We must listen and then put into action what the word of God says.
  • A war is a prolong ordeal   a battle is short-term
  • 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 - For the arms with which we are fighting are not those of the flesh, but are strong before God for the destruction of high places; Putting an end to reasonings, and every high thing which is lifted up against the knowledge of God, and causing every thought to come under the authority of Christ.
  • Luke 12:29 - And do not give overmuch thought to your food and drink, and let not your mine be full of doubts.
  • Lies - Satan is the father of lies. He will use God's name against us by saying that God is doing bad things to us.
  • We must not doubt. We must keep the faith.
  • 2 Corinthians 4:4 - The eyes of those who do not believe are made blind by Satan who is the god of this world. He does not want the light of the Good News to shine in their hearts.
  •  We need to check ourselves.
  • 2 Timothy 3:7 - Ever learning, and never coming to the knowledge of what is true.
  • John 3:20 - The light is hated by everyone whose acts are evil and he does not come to the light for fear that his acts will be seen.
  • Revelation 3:20 - Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hears my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me, said Jesus.
  • Romans 1:28 - God allowed people who persistently rejected Him to be given over to a reprobated mind, leading them to engage in sinful actions without remorse or restraint.
  • We need to renew our minds and spirits
  • Romans 12:2 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable and perfect, will of God.
