Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant & Mt. Pleasant

Prayer: Rev. Pelton

Scripture: Psalm 42:1-5 - As a deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you God!  I thirst for God, for I say, "When will I be able to go and appear in God's presence?" I cannot eat, I weep day and night; all day long they say to me, "Where is your God?" I will remember and weep! For I was once walking along with the great throng to the temple of God, shouting and giving thanks along with the crowd as we celebrated the holy festival.  Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention.

Subject: Thirsting For God & What To Do When We Are Discouraged

  • For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.  Ephesians 6:12
  • We cry out and long for a renewed relationship with God.
  • When we are thirsty, longing for God, He is there, waiting.
  • God is the one, true living God.
  • Do we have a diet of tears? Are we so distressed?
  • Where is God?
  • Be anxious for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Philippians 4:6-7
  • Faith challenges the tension of distress.
  • When it's all said and done.....to God be the glory.
  • 4 things when discouraged:  We tend to drift away; neglect prayer life; not attend church; spreading gloom and doom.
  • 1 But we should return to the Lord; 2 Let our light so shine before men that they might see our good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven (Matthew 5:16); 3 Put all our trust in God; & 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I way, rejoice. Philippians 4:4
  • Stop looking only at our personal trials and look to God.
  • I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord; the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together. Psalm 34:1-3
