Jude - Review
Verses 5-6 - Now I want to remind you, through you know all these things: The Lord first saved a people out of Egypt and later destroyed those who did not believe; and He has kept, with eternal chains in darkness for the judgment of the great day, the angels who did not keep their own position but deserted their proper dwelling.

Food for thought - Even the privileged, or converted or ones thinking they are more than others can escape the vengeance of God. They have turned away in unbelief or disobedience. Even the angels who were not pleased with their place with God, who were prideful, they were cast out and are kept to the judgment of they great day.  An everlasting separation from God.
2 Peter 2:4 - For it God did not spare angels when they sinned but sent them to hell, putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment;.....
Romans 1:20 - For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--His eternal pow and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

Sermon
1 Samuel 17:8-11 - Goliath stood and called to Israel's troops, "Why do you come out to prepare for battle? Am I not the Philistine, and are you not the servants of Saul? Choose for yourselves a man so he ay come down to me!  If he is able to fight with me and strike me down, we will become your servants. But if I prevail against him and strike him down, you will become our servants and will serve us."  Then the Philistine said, "I defy Israel's troops this day! Give me a man so we can fight each other!"  When Saul and all the Israelities heard these words of the Philistine, they were upset and very afraid.
Subject: You Ain't Got To Go Home.....
  • Goliath was a bully who loved to taunt his enemies.
  • Bullies have been around for a very long time.
  • Don't hang out with bullies. They are not your friends.
  • Bullies use treats to intimidate other either physical, verbally or emotionally.
  • Did you know that in the year 1530 the word 'bully' meant sweetheart?
Characteristics  of a bully:
  • Lack of empathy
  • Lack of control of their emotions
  • Angers easily
  • Inside they are weakling
  • Thrive on making others afraid
  • Physically aggressive
  • Always needs others around them
  1. Bullies come in all shapes, sizes and ethnicities. They are evil minded people who want to control others.
  2. Bullies are cowards at heart.
  3. Goliath was against the Almighty God. He was a pagan worshiper.
  4. Goliath's name meant 'splendor.'
  5. David had faith in God's power.
  6. David saw an opportunity to remove an obstacle from God's path for Israel.
Ephesians 6:10-12 - Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Sermon
Job 13:15 - God might kill me, but I cannot wait. I am going to argue my case with Him.
Topic: "Tough Times Don't Last But Tough People Do!"
  • Job was truly tried in fire by Satan but never turned from God.
  • We are not exempt from tough times.
  • Two errors we make are: 1. Asking "Why me, Lord?" and 2. Being prepared but not ready to a part of persecution or rejection.
  • Do we realize that we have a very present help in the Lord?
  • Reasons we suffer: 1. Because we are human. 2. To deepen our fellowship with God.
  • Our prayers should be aligned with God's will.
  • We need a right relationship with God.
  • Through tribulation, we finally understand scripture.
  • Job was restored by God.

Sermon
Philippians 2:1-5 - Therefore if you have any encouragement for being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.  Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your won interests but each of you to the interests of the others.  In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset of Christ Jesus.
Subject: "The Mind of Christ" "Let This Mind Be in You That Is In Christ Jesus"

  • At the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.  Philippians 2:10
  • God is not to be mocked.
  • Stand firm in all situations.
  • Paul wanted unity in the church.
  • Be of one accord.
  • Uniformity and unity are different.  Uniformity means the state of being the same; identical. Unity means the state of being in full agreement.
  • Love that doesn't count the cost, that's the way of Jesus.
  • Be grounded and rooted in the Word of God.
  • The spiritual mind is at peace.
  • I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.   Psalm 37:25

Romans 14 with a review  from chapter 12 - Renewing Your Mind!

What does it mean to Renew Your Mind??
  • Romans 12:2 - Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing and perfect will of God.
  • Discern means to detect with your eyes or other senses; to recognize or identify what's important.
  • 1 Timothy 2:3-4 - This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
  • John 1:1 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
  • John 1:14 - The Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We observed His glory, the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
  • We need to understand that God reveals His will for mankind through His Word.
  • Jesus and God's Word are one!!
  • The bible is not just a story about God but it is Him speaking to us.
  • God's ways are not our ways, His thoughts are not our thought. So renewing our minds in the Word brings us closer to the will of God.
  • Living in God's Word is the key to our deliverance and success in our present lives.

Romans 14 - The Law of Liberty or The Danger of Criticism
Be accepting of other Christians.

  • We as Christians are to accept anyone who is weak in faith and "do not" argue about doubtful issues.
  • Who are we to criticize!!!
  • Wherever one is in his/her faith, it is to the honor of God.
  • If we live, we live for the Lord; if we die, we die for the Lord.
  • We will all stand before the tribunal of God.
  • Every knee will bow to Me and every tongue will give praises to God. So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.
  • Let us make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.

Sermon
Exodus 7:3-4 - But I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in Egypt, he will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and with mighty acts of judgment I will bring out my divisions, my people the Israelites.
Subject: "Why Would God Harden Pharaoh's Heart?"

  • God knows what He's doing!
  • Pharaoh was an oppressive dictator who enslaved and abused the Israelites.
  • Pharaoh had already hardened his own heart.
  • For the scripture said unto Pharaoh, even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might show my power in thee, and that My name might be declared throughout all the earth. Therefore hath He mercy on whom He will have mercy, and whom He will He hardeneth. Romans 9:17-18
  • The heart is the bug of humanity
  •  Jesus said, "Why are you discussing that you do not have any bread? Don't you understand or comprehend? Is your heart hardened? Do you have eyes and not see and do you have ears and not hear? And do you not remember? When I broke the five loaves for the 5,000 how many baskets full of pieces of bread did you collect?"  Mark 9:17-19
  • What hardens the heart? Sin and pride are just to way.
  • The solution? Confession, recognizing the problem, repent of sins, change your life, study God's Word, obey God's Word.
  • I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is going to judge the living and the dead, and because of His appearing and His kingdom: Proclaim the message; persist in it whether convenient or not; rebuke, correct and encourage with great patience and teaching.  2 Timothy 4:1-2
  • Your presumptuous heart has deceived you, you who live in clefts of the rock in your home on the heights, who say to yourself, "Who can bring me down to the ground?" Obadiah 1:3
