Welcome & Happy Spring from Brown Chapel/Avant, Shiloh & Mt. Pleasant

Prayer: Rev. Pelton

Scripture: Nehemiah 4:1-6 - Now when Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall he became angry and was quite upset. He derided the Jews, and in the presence of his colleagues and the army of Samaria he said, "What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they be left to themselves? Will they again offer sacrifice? Will thy finish this in a day? Can they bring these burnt stones to life again from piles of dust?" Then Tobiah the Ammonite, who was close by said, "If even a fox were to climb up on what they are building, it would break down their wall of stones!" Hear, O our God, for we are despised! Return their reproach on their own head! Reduce them to plunder in a land of exile!  Do not cover their iniquity, and do not wipe out their sin from before them.  For they have bitterly offended the builders!  So we rebuilt the wall, and the entire wall was joined together up to half its height. The people were enthusiastic in their work.

Subject: How To Overcome Distractions

  • We are bombarded with distractions such as the news, health, money situations, even lots of praise.
  • If we aren't careful, we will or can become distracted.
  • We ought not think more highly of ourselves.  Romans 12:3
  • Nehemiah was focused on what God would have him to do. Are we focused on what God would have us to do?
  • A double mined man is unstable in all his ways. James 1:8
  • Obedience is better than sacrifice. 1 Samuel 15:22
  • Be accountable now because we will have to be accountable in the end.
  • Be consistent in prayer.
  • The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. James 5:16
  • Keep our eyes on the author and finisher of our faith.  Hebrews 12:2
