Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: 1Corinthians 11:23-28 - For it was handed down to me from the Lord, as I gave it to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night when Judas was false to him, took bread, and when it had been broken with an act of praise, he said, 'This is my body which is for you: do this in memory of me." In the same way, with the cup, after the meal, he said, "This cup is the New Testament in my blood: do this, whenever you take it, in memory of me. For whenever you take the bread and the cup you give witness to the Lord's death till he comes.  If, then, anyone takes the bread or the cup of the Lord in the wrong spirit, he will be responsible for the body and blood of the Lord. But let no man take of the bread and the cup without testing himself.

Subject: A Happy Meal

  • The Lord's Supper is a very special event to remember the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • This meal was celebrated with Jesus and his disciples in the upper room.
  • Exodus 12:13-14 - The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, so that when I see the blood I will pass over you, and this plague will not fall on you to destroy you when I attack the land of Egypt. This day will become a memorial for you, and you will celebrate it as a festival to the Lord - you will celebrate it perpetually as a lasting ordinance.
  • The Lord's Supper is important because:
  • Remember that Jesus died for you.
  • Celebrate Jesus who came into this world to save us.
  • A time of proclamation
  • A time for anticipation that Jesus will be coming back one day for his people.
  • A time for self- examination - we must be qualified. Are we saved, confession of sin, do we love one another, do you know Jesus in the pardon of your sins, etc.

Greetings from Brown Chapel/Avant & Mt. Pleasant

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 11:24-26 - And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eta: this is m body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.  After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.  For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord's death till he come.

Subject: What is Communion

  • Communion is the symbolic sharing of the elements of the body of Christ.
  • Jesus' last supper
  • Jesus uses this last supper as a symbolic way to show his coming death and resurrection.
  • Matthew 26 (read this chapter)
  • The purpose of Communion: A proclamation of Jesus Christ - the Good New that Jesus would die for our sins but also be resurrected from the dead. This message is from God. (2) This is a way for our focus is on Jesus.  1 Corinthians 10:17 - Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body for we all partake of the one bread.
  • John 17:20-22 - 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
  • The purpose of Communion: It is a time when we give thanks to Jesus Christ.
  • The Purpose of Communion: We set aside a time for us to take an inward look at our own lives.
Holy Communion

Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant & Mt. Pleasant

Prayer: Rev. Pelton

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:13 - An now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Subject: Love, What The World Needs Now

  • Jesus said for us not to be alarmed when the world's matters come upon us.
  • God is love.
  • Goodness, mercy, sympathy, understanding, empathy are all tied to LOVE.
  • L - our Lord - we should love our Lord with all our hearts, souls and minds.
  • Our God is a jealous God and we should always place Him first in our lives.
  • O - Others - We should love our neighbors as ourselves.
  • 1 John 4:18-21 - There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears punishment has not been perfected in love.  We love because he loved us first. If anyone says "I love God" and yet hates his fellow Christian, he is a liar, because the one who does not love his fellow Christina whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.  And the commandment we have from him is this: that the one who loves God should love his fellow Christian too.
  • V - Victory - We have victory in Christ Jesus.
  • We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
  • E - everlasting life - John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.

April 26, 2020 - Conference Call

Greetings from Brown Chapel/Avant; Shiloh Baptist and Mt. Pleasant Baptist
Prayer by Pastor Baggett
Sermon from 1 Corinthians 13:13 - And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Subject: LOVE

  • We need to understand the precept of God. God is love.
  • The love of "things" is a worldly and human thing not of God.
  • Romans 12:2 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and prefect, will of God.
  • Our foundation is built on God.
  • Mark 12:31 - The second is this: "Love your neighbor as yourself." No other commandment is greater than these.
  • 1 John 4:20-21 - If a man say, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar: for he that loves not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?  And this commandment have we from him is this: that the one who loves God should love his brother also.
  • 1 John 4:1 - Try the spirit by the spirit.
  • Ephesians 6:12 - For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
  • LOVE is our weapon against this world.
  • John 3:16 -  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.
  • Faith is necessary for our salvation. In John 14:6 Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth and the life." So God's requirement of faith in Jesus the Christ for salvation is primary to eternal life.
  • Finally, Revelation 21:4 - And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

God's Grace - Part 3 Conclusion

Examples of God’s Grace

Before God created mankind, He knew of our need to be rescued from sin.

John 1:17 – “For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”

2 Timothy 1:9 – “He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.”

Genesis 6:8 – “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.”  (Wickedness & evil were so rampart in the hearts of men that God had actually regretted creating them.) That’s grace!

Genesis 12:3 – “And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (God showed His grace to Abraham and Sarah even though they did not believe that God would give them a child.) That’s grace!

Genesis 50:20 – “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.” (After all his brothers did, God placed Joseph in a position as a savior of his people.) That’s grace!

Exodus 4:13 – “But Moses said, ‘Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.’” (Moses was arrogant, stubborn & doubtful but God guided him to become a shepherd to lead his people out of captivity) That’s grace!

Judges 10:16 – “And He could bear Israel’s misery no longer.” (Even after the countless times the Israelites grumbles against God, worshiped idol gods, turned away from God, etc. God showed more grace than was deserved them over and over and over.) That grace!

Joshua 2:11 – “The Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.” (Rahab ‘the harlot,’ asked God to save her in spite of her past and He did.) That’s grace!

Psalm 51:1 – “Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. (David lusted, stole, fornicated, lied and killed—yet God saw into his heart and loved him.) That’s grace!

Footnote about the “law”- Romans 3:20 – Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.

Sermon
1 Corinthians 9:24-27 - Do you not know that all the runners in a stadium compete, but only one receives the prize? So run to win.  Each competitor must exercise self-control in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one.  So I do not run uncertainly or box like one who hits only air. Instead I subdue my body and make it my slave, so that after preaching to others I myself will not be disqualified.
Subject: Finish The Race

  • Race is a contest of speed; the course of life; the act of running.
  • We are targets as Christians.
  • We should always continue to press towards the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14
  • While in the flesh, we run this race for men, but God is the final judge.
  • Corruptible is man seeking a perishable crown.
  • Discipline your body for the race to that eternal crown.
  • Psalms 40:1-3 - I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what He has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord.
  • And in the end, from 2 Timothy 4:7-8 - I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:  Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.
