Welcome to Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: 1 Samuel 8:1-5When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as Israel’s leaders. The name of his firstborn was Joel and the name of his second was Abijah, and they served at Beersheba. But his sons did not follow his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice.

So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.”

Subject: Be Careful What You Ask For

  • Our government has checks and balances brought about by the American Revolution.
  •  However, a government can develop problems if not reined in.
  • We must stand firm in our Christian beliefs.
  • These are not ordinary times.
  • We must remember to put and keep on the Whole Armor of God. Ephesians 6:10-18
  • Watch out for dishonesty, confusion, evil speaking.
  • Romans 12:2 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may experience what is the good and acceptable and perfect will.
  • Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33
  • For you must not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is jealous, is a jealous God. Exodus 34:14
  • To live by the sword is to die by the sword. Matthew 26:52
  • Psalm 24 - The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

2 For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place?

4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

5 He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

6 This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.

7 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

8 Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.

9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

10 Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.
