Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant & Mt. Pleasant

Prayer: Rev. Pelton

Scripture: Luke 11:1 & 5-10 - Now Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he stopped, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples."  And he said unto them, "Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine in his hour is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.  I say unto you, Though he will not rose and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needs.  And I say unto you, Ask, and is shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.  For every one that asks receive; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened.

Subject: Push, Push, Push

  • Push - meaning to persist until a certain result is achieved.
  • Today, for us as Christians, push should mean persist in prayer unceasingly.
  • Jesus depended on God the Father.
  • We are to do God's will not our own.  When He says to push against something, don't give up the task that He has  bid you even if "you" seem to be getting nowhere!
  • Pray!
  • Prayer is not learned in a classroom but in a closet.
  • Luke 5:16 - Yet Jesus himself frequently withdrew to the wilderness and prayed.
  • In the Garden of Gethsemane - Matthew 26:36-46 (Read)
  • Jesus wants us to pray persistently.
  • David said in a prayer, "I will bless the Lord at times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord. The humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.  O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together." Psalm 34:1-3
  • Pray until something happens.
  • Greater is he that is in us then he that is in the world.
