Romans 5 and 6
Chapter 5 - Faith Brings Joy
  • We have joy because of what Jesus did for us.
  • We are justified by faith.
  • The righteousness of God is given to all who believe.
  • We have a standing in grace because it is God's unmerited favor given to us.
  • We can rejoice in the Word.
  • We have hope which is "not" an uncertainty but a clear certainty.
  • The virtues of God's way of Christian growth is perseverance, character; character, hope. They build upon the other.
  • Through one man (Adam) sin entered the world.
  • Through one man (Jesus) our sins are washed away .
  • Grace reigns through Jesus.
Chapter 6 - Freedom From Sin's Grasp
  • What had God done about sin?
  • Sin's power is broken
  • Sin-loving nature is buried.
  • WE are no longer under sin's control.
  • Now we share His new life.
  • We are to look upon our old selves as dead; instead, be alive to God.
  • Don't allow sin to control you.
  • Give ourselves completely to God.
  • We are free!
  • We have a choice, choose God.

Sermon
Luke 13:10-13 -v10 - One Sabbath day as Jesus was teaching in a synagogue, v11 - He saw a woman who had been crippled by an evil spirit. She had been bent double for eighteen years and was unable to stand up straight. v12 - When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said, "Woman you are healed of your sickness!" v13 - Then He touched her, and instantly she could stand straight. How she praised and thanked God!
Subject - "Love Lifted Me"

  • This is the last time Jesus taught in a synagogue.
  • People love systems and rules more than they do people.
  • With Jesus, people come before systems and rules.
  • There is spirit full wickedness in high places.
  • Jesus did not want the woman to suffer a moment longer.
  • Had the woman heard that Jesus would be at the synagogue? Was she looking for a miracle? Had the woman tried other remedies?
  • Do we notice the infirmities of other? Do we care? We should!
  • Yes, Jesus cared and so should we.
  • The least, the lost and the last, Jesus had an affinity for.
  • Look unto God, the author and the finisher.
