Sunday School

Jude 1:1-25
Revelation 1:1-20

Jude:
  • Beware of false teachings.
  • We must remain faithful.
  • Do not mock and curse things that you do not understand for the Lord will judge you accordingly.
  • Scoffers are among us. They don’t have God’s Spirit living in them.
  • Be careful that we do not get trapped in scoffers’ rhetoric.

Revelation:
  • Revelation means an unveiling.
  • Don’t lose sight of “who” God is speaking to.
  • God blesses the one who reads this prophecy to the church and He blesses all who listen to it and obey what it says. For the time is near when these things will happen. Revelation 1:3
  • God spoke to Christ; Christ spoke to His angel; His angel spoke to John; John spoke to the seven churches.
  • John greets the churches: Grace and peace from the one who is, who always was and who is still to come. (Note: Exodus 3:14 – God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you’.”)
  • The sevenfold Spirit is another name for the Holy Spirit.
  • Seven is used throughout Revelation to symbolize completeness and perfection.
  • Christ is the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.
  • Christ freed us from our sins at the cross.
  • If is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.  Galatians 5:1
  • He made us to be a Kingdom of priest: Isaiah 6; Exodus 19:6; Peter 2:9
  • The Gentiles are included in this priesthood, as well. Ephesians 3:5-6.
  • Revelation 1:11 introduces us to the seven churches: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea. These churches are also known as the seven golden lampstands.
  • Jesus held in His right hand, the seven stars. His right hand is a sign of strength and control. The stars are referred to as angels or messengers to the seven churches.
  • John is told to write three things: (1) The things which you have seen; (2) The things which are; & (3) The things which will take place after these things.
Sermon
1 Kings 19:10-13 - V10 And he said, I have been very jealous for Jehovah, the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword: and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away. V11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before Jehovah.  And, behold, Jehovah passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before Jehovah; but Jehovah was not in the wind: and after the wind and earthquake; but Jehovah was not in the earthquake: V12 and after the earthquake a fire; but Jehovah was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. V13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice unto him and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

Subject: "God's Subtle Reminder"

We should always be pressing toward the high mark. Philippians 3:14
We seem to always be reaching for a set goal, but what happens after we've reached it?
Do we go from victory one day to defeat the next?
We should listen for God's voice, be humble & yield to God's guidance.
God is a God that never changes!
We can run but can't hide from God!
God is all knowing.
For it is He who made us, not we who.....Psalm 100:3
God is a still, small voice.
God hears us. We are not alone.
If my people I have called by name.....2 Chronicles 7:14
And He has set my feet upon a rock & established my goings. Psalm 40:2
