Sunday School
2 Peter 1:1-21 & 2 Peter 2:1-22

  • Peter's letter guides Christians to grow in faith, patience and knowing God better.
  • In working hard to prove that we really are among those God has called and chosen, we will never stumble or fall away.
  • We are to pay attention to scripture; sound doctrine.
  • God said, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
  • Paul was there, so we are to pay attention to what he is saying and fall into false teachings.
  • Beware of false prophets.
  • God did not share even the angels when they sinned.
  • False teachers are like unthinking animals. There destruction is their reward for the harm they have done.
  • v21 It would be better if they had never know the right way to live then to know it and then reject the hold commandments that were given to them.

Sermon
Psalm 122:1-2 - I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord. Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.
Subject: Just Glad to Be In the House

  • Early in life we might not have cared to even come near the House of the Lord due to our rebellion against our parents but we surely do come to our senses.
  • We come to the House of the Lord to worship Him.
  • We gather in the name of God to worship Him.
  • Worship - the act of showing respect and love for a religious deity.
  • We worship because we believe there is a God.
  • Without faith it is impossible to please God. Hebrews 11:6
  • God inhabits the praises of His people.
  • God is worthy of our praises.
  • Through worship, we find purpose.
  • Take time out to serve the Lord.
  • The twenty-four elders fall down and worship the One sitting on the throne, the one who lives forever and ever. Revelation 4:10
  • The people honor me with their lips but their heart is far from me. Matthew 15:8 Jesus also said that what defiles a person is not what goes into the mouth; it is what comes out of the mouth.
  • Where two or three gather in My name, I am there in the midst.  Matthew 18:20
  • The spirit of the Lord is here!
  • Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?  Psalm 139:7
  • God is omnipresent, which means, He is everywhere at all times.
  • Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?  1 Corinthians 3:16
  • And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
  • God's manifest presence is in heaven and with His people.
  • Focus on God.
  • Therefore repent and be converted so that your sins may be wiped out so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and so that He may send the Messiah appointed for you - that is, Jesus. Acts 3:19-20
  • Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence; and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of your salvation; and uphold me with your free Spirit. Psalm 51:10-12
