Sunday School
2 Peter 3:1-18

  • Scoffers beware of the Lord our God. Scoffers do not wish to know the "truth" of the Word but Christians know the word and need to remain steadfast to it.
  • Christians are promised a treasure which is stored up for us.
  • God's time is not our time but through our long-suffering our reward is laid up in heaven.
  • Scoffers say that the time has already come but this is not true. For no man knows.
  • Christians are to stay prayerful.
  • v14-15 - Wherefore, beloved, seeing that we look for these things, giving diligence that we may be found in peace, without spot and blameless in His sight. And account that the long-suffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given to him, wrote unto you.

Sermon
James 1:1-4 - James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes scattered abroad [among the Gentiles in the dispersion]: Consider it wholly joyful, my brethren, whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations. Be assured and understand  that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience. But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be [people] perfectly and fully developed [with no defect], lacking in nothing.

Subject: "Good Fruit For Tough Times"

  • But the fruit of the [Holy} Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplished] is love, joy {gladness}, peace, patience {an even temper, forbearance}, kindness, goodness {benevolence}, faithfulness. Galatians 5
  • Faith without works is dead. James 2:6
  • Faith must produce.
  • Faith must inspire us to action.
  • Now faith is the substance of thing hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  Hebrews 11:1
  • For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth. Ephesians 5:1
  • Be humble as Christ was. He washed feet to show His humbleness.
  • The testing of our faith produces patience.
  • Trials are only adversities in our lives. How do we meet them?
  • We should have a proper attitude toward our trials.
  • Count it all joy when you fall into divers temptations.  James 1:2
  • If God be for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31
