Sunday School
Hebrews 11:13-40

  • Only those who believe will enter the kingdom of heaven.
  • We must have faith in God.
  • We have to give an account of our own actions.
  • Faith is NOW!
  • We are to fight the good fight of faith.
  • We should be thankful to be living in "grace."
  • Pray in faith and act on your faith.
  • Without faith it is impossible to please God.
  • The power, presence and prompting of the Holy Spirit in the Word of God.

Sermon
Matthew 5:14-16
v14 - Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. v15 - Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shines unto all that are in the house. v16 - Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Subject: Designed to Shine

  • You (we) are the light of the world.
  • Jesus is speaking to the disciples and to the crowd.
  • Many were curious of what Jesus was going to do....miracles.
  • The multitude was there to receive something from Jesus instead of believing in Him.
  • We are to be lights in a world of darkness.
  • Don't worry about the multitudes.
  • Philippians 2:14-15 - v14 - Do all things without murmurings and questionings: v15 - that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you are seen as lights in the world.
  • Darkness - the state of being dark; the absence of light; wickedness; Satan; a lack of knowledge
  • Satan uses spiritual darkness to blind us to the gospel and daily living life with God.
  • Light - radiant energy; illuminating; a dawning.
  • 1 John 1:7 - but if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleans us from all sin.
  • Jesus is the light of the world.
  • Jesus is my light and my salvation
  • Walking in the light with God is a joyous thing.
  • We are only reflectors of the true light.
