May 13, 2012 and Mother's Day

Sunday School
Philippians 1:1-30
Joy in Suffering - from Paul

  • Joy is Jesus
  • Get the Good News out
  • Verse 6 - And I am sure that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on that day when Christ Jesus comes back again.
  • May your love be on display
  • Verses 11-12 - May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation - those good things that are produced in your life by Jesus Christ - for this will bring much glory and praise to God.  And I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters, that everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News.
  • We all need to spread the Good News
  • What does it matter who is preaching about the Good News..... for it is being preached
  • Rejoice
  • Verses 21-22 - Living is for Christ, and dying is ever better.  Yet if I live, that means fruitful service for Christ.  I really don't know which is better, stated Paul.
  • Hebrews 11:6 - So, you see, it is impossible to please God without faith.  Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that there is a God and that He rewards those who sincerely see Him.
  • Verse 30 - We are in this fight together......

Sermon
James 3:1-2
Subject: Taming The Tongue

  • Speech has the power to uplift or destroy
  • Greater is He who is with Me than in the world
  • Many should not be masters (teachers).
  • We must be responsible, need to study for ourselves and ask for a revelation from God.
  • We need to be accountable for our words
  • We must be living examples of His word.
  • (From Footnotes) What we say and what we don't say are both important not only say.  To use proper speech you must not only say the right words at the right time but also not say what you shouldn't.
  • Bragging, exaggerating, comparing flattery, lying, false teaching are just a few examples of unkind talk.
  • Watch what you say to others. Ask yourself if what you are about to say would be hurtful to others.
  • Sow seeds of love and God will bless you bountifully!
