October 24, 2010 Sunday School and Sermon

Sunday School - 1 Corinthians 14:1-40 - The Gifts of Tongues and Prophecy

Love is the highest attribute to attain.
Special abilities the Holy Spirit gives us prophecy and speaking in tongues (tongues is secondary to prophecy).
The gift of prophecy lends to the whole church body whereas speaking in tongues is more for the individual speaking or communicating with God.
Prophecy benefits the "Whole" church.  It involves predicting future events but mainly to communicate God's message to people....provide insight, warnings, corrections and encouragement. All things are done in an orderly passion.

Sermon Text

Hebrews 10:23-25 ....... 23 - Without wavering, let us hold tightly to the hope we say we have, for God can be trusted to keep His promise.  24 - Think of ways to encourage one another to outbursts of love and good deeds.  25 - And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of His coming back again is drawing near.

Subject  Brief- The Church and You

We are to come with reverence and praise to God.
Worship deals with the order of things.
Church simply means .... called out and to assemble or organize. (Ephesians 4:16 - Under His direction, the whole body is fitted together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.)
Communion - common union.  God wants us to be in union with Him.
Remember that we are always in the presence of God.  Encourage one another; set good examples; keep your focus on God; edify (lift up) one another.
