Welcome to Brown Chapel/Avant, Mt. Pleasant & Shiloh

Prayer: Pastor Baggett

Scripture: Philippians 3:12-14 - I don't mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.  No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

Subject: Higher Ground

  • And the band played on is a way of saying that sometimes we don't see what's really going on or refuse to see it and yet things keep right on going.
  • We must not worry about what has already happened to us. Don't dwell on the past. We must press towards God's high calling.
  • We must be patient, with a steady march, always keeping our eyes on God.
  • Don't get caught up in unforgiveness, hatred, etc.
  • We must move towards a goal with a single-minded focus.
  • We are working towards a spiritual maturity.
  • Jesus reaches us at our level and lifts us up, if we let him.
  • We must open our hearts to him.
  • The world's confusion should not stop our pursuit of our Christian life. We are on a journey.
  •  We should aways be in a position of humbleness.
  • God's amazing grace is sufficient.
