Welcome from Brown Chapel/Avant & Mt. Pleasant
Prayer: Pastor Baggett
Scripture: 1 John 5:1-5 - Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. 4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
Subject: Steps to Victorious Living
- The taste of victory is very sweet.
- It is not God's will to walk in defeat.
- Jesus said that he came that we would have life with abundance.
- 1 Corinthians 15:57 - But thanks be to God, which gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
- We must keep our minds stayed on Jesus.
- We must have Titus 2:11-13 - For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people. It trains us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, as we wait for the happy fulfillment of our hope in the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
- Romans 15:13 - Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in him, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
- We must have praise.
- Acts 16:25 - About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God and the rest of the prisoners were listening to them.
- We need to have faith and take the focus off of ourselves.
- Hebrews 11:6 - Now without faith it is impossible to please him, for the one who approaches God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
- We must
- John 5:1-9 - After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2 Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Aramaic[a] called Bethesda,[b] which has five roofed colonnades. 3 In these lay a multitude of invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed.[c] 5 One man was there who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?” 7 The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.” 8 Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” 9 And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked.
- Jesus is our shelter in the storm. He is our strength.
- We must never except defeat.
- We must continue to press towards the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14
