The Law - The Fifth Dispensation
The Law extends from Sinai to Calvary - from Exodus to the Cross
Why, then, was the law given at all? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come.
The law was given through angels and entrusted to a mediator. Galatians 3:19
Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God's sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.
There were 613 Laws that the Jews were to follow.
These laws covered philosophy, psychology, biology, physics, economics, ecology, culture, politics, domestics, family, church life, just to name a few.
Examples of the Law:
  • To know that God is One, a complete Unity. Deuteronomy 6:4
  • To fear Him reverently. Deuteronomy 6:13
  • To imitate His good and upright ways. Deuteronomy 28:9
  • To honor the old and the wise.  Leviticus 19:32
  • To cleave to those who know Him. Deuteronomy 10:20
  • To put fringes on the corners of clothing. Numbers 15:38
  • To bind God's Word on the head. Deuteronomy 6:8
  • To recite grace after meals. Deuteronomy 8:10
  • To love all human beings who are of the covenant. Leviticus 19:18
  • Do not take revenge or bear a grudge.  Leviticus 19:18
  • Do not leave a beast, that has fallen down beneath its burden, unaided. Deuteronomy 22:4
  • Do not reap the entire field. Leviticus 19:9
  • Give charity according to one's means. Deuteronomy 15:11
  • Do not wrong a stranger in your speech. Exodus 22:20
  • Do not curse your father or mother. Exodus 21:17
  • There are many more Laws but the point to this lesson is that all these 613 Laws could not be upheld by the Jewish people.
  • Moses went up on the Mount where God gave him the Ten Commandments and the Jews could not hold to them. That is why the "Grace" period is so much more important now.

Sermon
Ecclesiastes 3:1 and Matthew 4:18-20
3:1 - There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.
4:18-20 - As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." At once they left their nets and followed Him.
Subject: "The Reason for the Seasons"
  • Man's happiness lies with the right relationship with God, not in these external times.
  • Seasons is defined as four divisions of the year.
  • There is a predetermined season or time for everything.
  • Just as your planet revolves around the sun, our Christian lives revolve around the SON (Jesus).
  • God remains the same yesterday, today and forever.
  • We know that Peter was a fisherman, a bragger, carried a knife, a liar and was called into ministry.
Three Points that Peter discovered and we go through today:
1. We encounter new changes all the time. Change is inevitable.
We should remember that it is God who made us and not ourselves.
Do not be fashioned according to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, and ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2
2. We enter into new challenges as Peter did.
Peter's faith was challenged when he stepped out of the boat to go to Jesus; when Jesus washed Peter's feet; when Peter denied Jesus three times.
We are challenged today. Do we struggle or stumble or do we look to God?
We have grace and mercy.
3. We need to remember that we are champions. We are transformed.
